What it's like moving a reloading room

I had a 12x12 lean to off the side of my backyard shop dedicated to reloading and shooting gear. I Built a 21x18 metal shop with a 4x18 loft. Almost quadrupled square footage- it is full to the point of almost being cluttered. Bad part is I had 8 linear feet of work bench now I have 24 linear feet and I still have to go to the shop to work on stuff. After I moved all the gear into the larger gun room my wife asked "How did you have all this in the tiny one?" my reply "I really have no idea".

I've moved my stuff 5 times. Started with just an NRMA bench in the early 80's, in the 2nd bedroom of 3 different 2bdrm apartments. Added a couple of plywood benches in the last one. Then to a house with a 10x20 basement, NRMA bench with an 11ft bench, which got transplanted to this current place, added a cleaning bench. The last move was not a lot of fun, things just seemed a whole lot heavier, and I'd acquired a pile of stuff from 2004-2021 in the last house, woodworking stuff, more reloading stuff, boats, guns, waterfowling gear. Bunch of stuff I shud have sold before moving. Had tables at two gun shows last couple of yrs, getting rid of stuff I could find no future use for, still have a lot to go yet. Be a lot of waterfowling, fly tying, fishing, hunting gear to go over the next two yrs, hazards of aging.

I have moved mine a couple times. The most painful was when I replaced my bench 20+ years ago.

I set most things to the side, to get enough room to remove/replace it. When the new one was installed, I picked up my Rockchucker and the ram came up forcefully impaling my middle finger on the decap pin on the size die I had left in the press.
There is a round white scar in the center of the tip of my finger, reminding me to think before I act.
Been there and dam it hurts. Will bring a tear to your eye and bad expletives.

I've been in my current place since I built it 30 years ago. The basement shop is now comprised of the machine shop, reloading room, a storage room and the gun vault. I cannot imagine trying to move it, but I suppose I'll have to, eventually. When I put the lathe in, (a 13x40) I was able to strip it down and carry the bed. That was 30 years ago. To move it now, I'll have to remove a section of wall and use the excavator. I can't pick up that much weight anymore. The move from here will likely be into the old folk's home after I auction the shop off. WH

In the process of moving my reloading room but only about 15' from where it is right now. Going from 1/2 of a bay in my shop to a 12' X 20' addition onto the back of the shop which was originally a lean-to shed and served as a shooting area. Once I am moved my shooting bench and reloading bench will sit side-by-side as this is the main reason for the move.
Bill that is a nice setup. Did you add a refrigerator and small stove for cooking snacks? a fire place would be nice too.

Just think that’s only the reloading room. The wife must have 5x that many boxes for all her junk hoarded over the last 30+ years.

And I tell my wife that too. So if you dont hear from me you know what happened.

Just and update on the reloading/shooting room. Got quite a bit done but still have a good bit more to go before I can say I'm done. At least I can get back to reloading now if needed. LOL.

I have moved mine twice. First time was 850 miles. Second time only 550 miles. Find a cheap source for bozes and buy an enclosed trailer and a good puckup to pull it.

Sorry guys but I been working towards this for well over a year now. It is finally coming together and I honestly feel blessed to have it. My hole in the woods (shooting lane) is only 100 yds. but it beats nothing at all and comes in really handy when working up loads although the truth is always seen at distance.

Yeah I'd love to have something long but I'd be tickled to death to just have 100 yds out the back door. When I was younger we always shot at the house but then came a real career and living in the burbs... Enjoy both the room and the range!
