What is your recoil limit?

I’ve noticed over all these years of shooting.223 and 6BR, I’ve become quite spoiled with tolerating excessive recoil. I’m reminded quickly when I go to shoot my 308 or ‘06! Lol Those two are probably my limit these days for accurate shooting and enjoying longer strings of fire. What is your limit for recoil when shooting for fun?

All my testing is done with my M70 in .338-06 Ackley. And I'm glad too, as after a bench session shooting 250gr or even 210gr bullets, I'm done and look forward to working with my .20VT or some pistol shooting.

Getting pounded with heavy rifle recoil at 78 yrs old is just not classified as 'fun' any more. There's other ways to put a grin on my face these days. Shooting squirrels with my 20VT is one, and it doesn't leave any bruises.

I suppose that's my limit for having 'fun'.

Probably a 12 gauge for a few rounds of trap. For rifle, just give me a .223; I tried for a long time to get my .308 Palma rifle comfortable, but it never did take. Soon as I moved to .223 it was fun again (and my scores went up.)

300wm is a no-go for me. I've shot them and simply don't like the punishment.

I like 7mag and 338wm just fine though. Seems to me it's more about the type of felt recoil. I know folks that love their 300wm and hate 338wm. Or maybe I'm just weird. lol

Today at, 77 y/o,.. I AVOID Recoil and Muzzle Jump,. LIKE, the PLAGUE !
My Rifles ARE, All, Braked, Now,.. Except for, one 7 x 30 Waters, ( a T / C Contender, 5 lb woods carry, Rifle ) and, a Custom, Ruger 10-22, .22 LR.

The 26-06 with 85gr is my upper limit, I THINK. I just restocked it and need to shoot it. Guess I'll find out if I can handle it. The 300WM and 270 is way, way back in the safe. I really like the little stuff 17 Hornady Hornet, 222 R and my favorite low recoil rifle 17HMR, no recoil, no reloading and just right for Sage Rats or gophers. I'm a little scared of the falling block (Japanese Win) with the curved but plate, so I bought a CZ 17HMR, just in case.

45-70 loads vary, but it can reach past the line where fun stops.
Yup,. My Marlin .45-70 WAS, a Thumper at, BOTH, ends ! ( especially Off, the Bench !! )
As was, My Un-Braked,. .338 Win Mag !
Both, are NOW, Gone/ sold and Replaced with, a 6.5 Creed ( 130 gr ELD-M's for, Steel ) and, a Sweet Custom, 6 XC !
Again, Both are,.. BRAKED and VERY Pleasant,.. to Shoot !

Firing a handgun one handed bullseye style, I have not found a limit, this includes 50AE, TC 30-30 etc. For rifle I discovered that since shoulder surgery, the but-plate on my Ruger #1 in 45-70 aligns perfectly with one of the screws in my shoulder. So I limit myself to 10 or so mid power rounds, the rest are 300 cast, 14.5 of Trail Boss.
