What is your longest shot witha 22 hornet or .218 bee?NO TAKERS On pipsqueaks.

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I have made two really long shots with the bee.I shot a crow offhand at 165 yds and a woodchuck at 225 yds.It didnt look like it did much when I walked up on them, but they were dead .one shot one kill for those two varmints.By the way,the bee is a classic 1894 marlin lever gun and the other is a stock ruger#1!

200 + yd wild dog on cattle ranch. win 43 in .218bee fac ammo leu 2x7. Pure luck ! but I shot the gun every day for 6 yrs. rattlesnakes to mercy killing ton cancer eyed Hereford bulls with everything in between. Nailed a flying gobbler once. Would give anything for 35 yr old eyes and reflex again. It was my work gun and I saved every brass hull. Bought yellow box super X by the case and a few green and white box rem ammo. I love taking this gun out of the case and oiling it down. MOA gun Buff Cobb in Tallahassee FL reworked trigger early on, bone stock. ;)

The zipper is quite a bit hotter. Thank you for responses.I love the model 43 pic ,it is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!! I really wish it was mine.LOL

Man I didnt know what the hornet was truly capable of till I viewed your axis deer? That is outstanding .I will be telling that story for a while.I know that in australia they love all the little cartridges like 25-20,32-20,22 hornet and the .218 bee. This is cool. Great shooting.

that axis went 240lbs, of course it was precise shot placement.
heres that 11 pointer at a mere 12 yds, he went 205lbs
and a few more wit da hornet.
every shot is either in the neck or the head none has taken a step.

Vanguard, you are one amazing shot.Placement is the game and dead animals is your game. All I can say is awesome and congrats for such a grand use of such a fine caliber. I cant wait to next year here in new york. They are going to open the first centerfire season in 2011.I want to take my 1894 classic marlin and do some majic with it. I love that little rifle,I use 11.0 grains of ww296 powder with a 50 grain rem plhp. It is deadly!

Vanguard.... 8)

Shot placement is king. But be wary of running deer with less than perfect shots.

I'm having a look at a Rugger 77/22 Hornet tomorrow - something small and nice to fiddle with.

in 35 years of hunting I have never shot at a running deer.
I pick my shots carefully and with the hornet I have even had to pass on a shot, more than once.
But thats the price you pay and what makes hunting with it challenging

Sorry, should've said deer running after the shot is taken. More a comment for other readers than you.

Break bones and sever nerves (as you're doing it seems) you'll be perfectly fine.

I used to shoot a lot of deer with 6x45; hit them in the lungs and they would emigrate. Can't really afford to pass on chances for my deer hunting and upgraded to 243 and then back to where I started with 6,5 mm's.

My 22 Hornet will have carbine barrel and suppressor - handy and quiet.

I have a cz 527 american that shoots great.
I have killed and seen coyotes killed with this 22 Hornet out to 250 (1 shot kills).
I have also seen 2 deer killed with a 22 hornet just under 200 yds both of which where DRT. My longest shot with a 22 Hornet is just over 300. 305 to be exact on a prairie dog. I shot many rounds due to the gusting wind, to ever hit the little fellow. The prairie dog didn't even act like he was hit for a few seconds then he just fell over.

22 Hornet on prairie dogs 290 yards on the range finder, several shot past that range but I didn't use the range finder, perhaps 320 yards? Very calm day little wind, mostly just elevation adjustments, and the dogs were small about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Why dont we set up a friendly postal type shoot with a specific target and mail em to be judged and see who can really shoot the hornet and the bee?

Just mentioning sisk bullets and the 2r lovell puts you in the classic catagory.I still have a box of sisk bullets somewhere.

Ok i cant stand it, i have had a hornet and loved it but my first love of small center fire was a 2r lovell, on a high wall action with a Phiffer bbl, 26"

11 gr of 4227 and a Sisk 50 gr sp. loaded with lyman tong tools.
