What is your favorite 308 based cartridge

In think if I was a hunter, .308 would have to be a top contender from what I have read about it's effectiveness/bullet choices/cost/availability.

Back in '90 I bought a M700 BDL 7-08 Varmint Special to shoot HP silhouette. It was love at first trigger pull. I have shot that round and others every week since. I am down to nine 7-08 rifles from fourteen at one time. I have enough components in the house to exceed 100K shots.

No ETA on when that milestone will happen.

On a full length 308 case, the 260AI, 260 and 7-08AI are top of my list. Shortened case, any of the BR variants in 6mm.

I have not owned, or shot one, but I've always fancied the 260 AI. I've shot the 308 and 243, and own a 7-08 and they are all good. If I had to pick one for the stuff I do, I'd choose the 260AI. Short of going for elk, it has good speed and all the umph I could need when it gets there.

Plain old 308. I just took my new old Winchester pre64 action and a new Bartlien barrel into a gunsmith near me. He had all kinds of “tactical type” guns with carbon wrapped barrels in his racks. I said “chamber it in 308” and he said “BORING!” I stuck with my choice.

Being the jerk I am , I'd be looking for a new Gunsmith ! His job is to do what I want . Not what "HE" thinks is "Tacti-Cool" !

I really like the 308. Its tough to beat as a do all cartridge. I have looked at the balistics and numbers on a 708, and always wanted one, sooner or later I will have one, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Always thought A laminated stock model 7 would be a pretty nice deer rifle
