What is with all the anger on this forum lately?

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I have been on this forum for quite awhile. It seems lately ,like in the past 6 months that some members read a thread and start arguing immediatley. What is going on? There is soe limited name calling to repugnant language or coments about every post they put up.It really doesnt matter what the subject is,it keeps happening. We can disagree without loosing it on any subject. For the most part the people on here are really nice and respectful, but it gets sickening to see the bickering going on all the time.If we disagree then we can agree to disagree. It really doesnt help to argue over silly things that wont change anything in reality.Wouldnt it be smarter to just write in a decent and adult way and argue with facts other than perceptions.I personally would like to see us get back to helping each other than making our ego feel better.I have been drawn into this myself, but I am trying to stop any angry outbursts over insignificant comments. Here is an example.A guy asks a question that has been answered many times before.Instead of getting mad about it,help him or her as they more than likely didnt realize that it had been asked 20 times before. If it bothers you that they asked in the first place,go on to something else to read. I have noticed new members asking the same old questions, either help or go on to something else. Why leave the new poster feeling bad right off the bat.Do unto others as you would have them do unto to you.I realize we all get irritated at times but if that happens read something else to enjoy this forum. This place is one of the greatest learning places on the web period. The members are the best with a few fellas that seem to be kinda like they have to much time on their hands and are quick to anger.Leave the anger out of these pages and it will make a more enjoyable experience for all. This is just my observations and in no way is meant to single anyone out as I am guilty myself.

I think it's: 1) the extra month of winter this year; 2) on-going scarcity of components; 3) general cussedness over the state of our economy & political prospects for the mid-terms in Nov.

Any one or a combination of all three in whatever proportion, your choice.

Best advice I can muster is even if it's personal, let it go 'cause it's not worth the stress on your heart.

We all can do better.

spclark has a lot of good points.

I say this, it's easy to type something back quickly a smart response or a rude comment. We should all including myself treat it as if we were talking to the person face to face. I think the lack of personal interaction is one of the biggest problems with the world today and we all fall into the internet world a little sometimes.

+1. Times are tough right now and I think people are just edgy.

Excellent post Jon and replies IMHO. This truly is a great site with great people to me. I must try to be considerate and grateful even if I disagree and remember I was a beginner also at some point. Also, I must remember that the greatest weapon those against our sport have is to divide and conquer! We will either hang together or hang separately.

When I was much younger I had a short fuse. Now that I'm old and gray it's a kinder, gentler Danny, and I'm better for it.

Talking to someone in person and trying to take it in the same context in print can sometimes be difficult. I try and write a response, wait a few minutes, go back and read it to see if I am sounding condescending or arrogant, do the necessary edit and then post. I ask myself "am I adding anything to the discussion"? Not always successful but I try and see if I'm just throwing gasoline on the fire. Unfortunately every forum has what I call "Thread Killers". They're the ones that absolutely have to raise a ruckus with their "expert" opinion, denigrate others' ideas or just plain turn the thread in to a session of urinary olympics.

My grandfather told me when I was a boy that the part of getting old he didn't like was having to be nice to everyone, Lol. I'm starting to get the picture now that I am gaining on it. I promised myself years ago to not age into a crabby old man. There is enough of them already.

It boils down to one word >> RESPECT.... We, as a society and a people, show very little respect for others and how they live, work and in our case, how they reload... If we don't agree with someone, in today's world, we'll "SHOW THEM A THING OR TWO!!
If we don't agree with something someone posted, it's ok to point out our disagreement>> just show some respect for the other person by choosing the correct words and you will get your point across without hurting them and in the meantime, destroying ANY credibility you MAY have garnered on this site! Caustic verbiage is not the way to treat anyone, much less a forum member..

As a dear departed friend and gun smith suggested to me years ago, "don't argue about it, settle it with cat sh*t dueling pistols at 10 paces and be done!"
I try to remember that a lack of civility could lead to that, or worse.

WHAT DA YA MEAN??? I am tired of your condescending and arrogant posts always trying to smooth things over!!!!!!!!!! Grow some hair on that sack and tell them rotten know everything SOB's they are full of *hit and a LIAR to boot!!!!!

OH.......WAIT......you weren't talking about me, you were talking to me? ;) Sorry Jon, long winter, I just had to vent! :) LOL

Always thought it stupid and immature to argue as an adult in business with customers and with friends etc. Never ever solved a thing! Then to have the mind set to argue on the net about some of the most irrelevant crap I just don't understand? How easy some find it to degrade, insult or try and intimidate a complete stranger using a keyboard I am clueless to WHY!!!! Guess I was raised to be too MELLOW? :)

Respectfully,
Dennis

Thanks for the laugh this AM Eddie. Always found that comment from him AFTER the unfortunate 'attitude adjustment' he was subject to that he could say that with a straight face after all his shenanigans before and those he brought about in his future. One should follow his own advice some times!
