I'll accept this because most drawing numbers begin with A, B, C or D but why would they cast the alloy formula on the piece itself, unless the information was somehow important to the end use?
 
Do you think the fella could bring in what it was attached too, so we might have us a better idea of how to hook it up and make it shoot?

Lots of older industrial parts had the material cast into them so youd know how to proceed on repairs because every cast iron alloy was welded differently. Ive worked around power plants from the earliest days and lots of parts are like that thats how i knew. The 1920's are the oldest stuff ive worked on
