What is this on my Sinclair Competition rest?

I don't have a clue what this screw is supposed to do... can someone enlighten me. (Called Sinclair and the guy in tech support did not know... he called the guy who builds the rest and he is "out".

Thanks!

It's a second screw to supplement the main elevation tensioning knob - an aftermarket item that a previous owner added. Not a bad idea, as the main knobs have been known to come loose at inopportune times. When they do, things can come crashing down in a hurry. We used to make little spanners so you can get more purchase on the OEM knobs.

Thanks! Interesting... as I bought this new from Sinclair in ~2014.
Does anyone still make a spanner wrench for the OEM knob?

Looks like a thumb screw I made years ago. It's used as a third point of contact to keep the riser from moving. The factory fit between the riser and windage column is not close by any means. The true fix is to make both pieces with minimal clearance. I think they make them loose fitting so nobody has trouble getting the riser stuck. Takes a little finesse fitting two pieces together with a couple ten-thousands clearance, lol

Especially in the PRC. Not knocking the rests, I have one. They can be sloppy, esp if the tolerances stack against you.

Yeah...they are decent rests, but need tweaking to make them better. Mass produced for production. Tight tolerance costs $$. I ended up making a really close clone that is tight and then came up with another(4" longer) to accommodate a longer BR stock to keep controls in a comfortable position.1568167595-picsay.jpg
