What is this for?

I have a large kit of round gauge blocks. From 3-12”. With a 2-3” wide base. See photo. The gauge blocks can connect via set screws and can screw into base. As seen. Rods are 1.25”. Any ideas what this would be used for? Any practical Gunsmithing applications?

It appears that all of the ends are ground and the rods could be stacked up on top of the base. I would think that they were made for calibrating a height gauge on a granite inspection table at a variety of heights.

Those are the stack up blocks for the world's largest sine bar......

In all honesty those are gage blocks used on a surface plate
