What is the minimum barrel thread shoulder thickness

Is there a set minimum thickness for barrel tennon shoulders?
If say the threads were 1.000" for easy math would 1.100 at the shoulder be enough to keep it all together?
Same question worded different:
What would be the minimum shank diameter one could safely use for a rem 700 rifle?

I had always assumed appearance had as much to do with how/why rifle shanks were the sizes they were.

A model 70 featherweight barrel has about the shortest factory barrel shoulder.
