What is the mallet for?

Like this one!

1000yard,
Just for the record, I did not think you were exagerating. Others have seen what you saw I am sure.
It still 'strikes' me as being a ridiculous way to operate a bolt action.
Gonna start wearing a helmet at the range in case I have offended anyone with a mallet :)

The First, first rule of thumb...."when in doubt, get a bigger hammer".

I have heard 50 cal guys say that before.....I shook my head then...now shaking hurts to much, so I just scratch it a little!!

I had a hammer for one match.....I used it to set the feet on my rest, and a "just in case something goes horribly wrong" tool for my bolt. Mostely though, I just lent it out to other shooters!! That was OK though. Anyone who knows me knows that I usually forget at least one important thing at home each match, and can usually be found borrowing stuff from other shooters!!!

They can also be used if someone is encroaching on your firing point:

Is that David gossnell . Spelling on the name could be wrong. But if it is ill start whatching him closer. Just went back and read the previous post. Ill keep and eye on him and give him room lots of room

I saw a guy at a score shoot one day and every minute he wasn't on the line shooting...he was sitting by his stuff on a stool continually smacking his forehead with a leather mallet. I got curious and walked over and asked him why he was doing that. He looked up. still smacking his forehead with the mallet and softly said..."cause it feels so good when I quit"!

Bill
Mostly for setting the rest's feet and pounding the stock into the bags.
But have used it to open the bolt after a case full of VV under an 808

I'm so glad I read this thread. I thought the mallet/hammers I occasionaly saw on the line were scope adjustment tools. I also was not aware that F-class competition was a full contact sport as documented by Mark. I'm wondering if I should invest in some armor, or at least a helmet before the next match.
