What is the full benefit of bushing a firing pin?

View attachment 1032187

Very simple to remove. One Allen set screw in the back and the decapping pin comes right out.

It's all one piece. I'll see if i can find another to purchase and turn down. Maybe call Frankford. I would like to maintain the original pin for strength because I sometimes buy cheap once fired 223 brass for my 20 TAC. If the primers are crimped, they can be stubborn when trying to remove them. If I can find another one, I'll just turn it down for the PPC flash holes and swap the pins out as needed. I'd imagine the pins must be available somewhere because they are obviously built as a replaceable component on the tool.

So I forgot that I had a LEE universal depriming die that I use on my PPC cases because it comes standard with a small pin for .062 flash holes.

Anyhow, I pulled the decapping rod out of it and sure enough it is almost the same exact diameter and length as the decapping rod used in the Frankford Arsenal hand tool.

Length (OAL - end of Rod to end of pin)
LEE: 3.953"
Frankford: 3.964"

Diameter
LEE: 0.2023"
Frankford: 0.2018"

The results clearly show that the LEE universal decapping die rods are a direct replacement for the Frankford Arsenal hand depriming tool. Bonus is that the LEE rod already has a pin designed for PPC cases and there are aftermarket replacement decapping rods available for the LEE made with hardened "tool steel" for extra strength and duarbility. Total win. The LEE fits perfectly in the Frankford. Actually even fits just a hair better due to a slightly larger diameter.

Only downside is that the LEE decapping rods can only do 22 cal and larger. But thats ok. Just nice to know I can do my PPC cases in the Frankford now. I know the diameter difference doesn't seem like much, but it is just enough to make doing 20 cal with the LEE difficult.

Problem solved ;)
