What is the Fire Control on a bolt rifle?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge bu what is a fire control on a bolt action rifle?
Is it the trigger?

Not sure what it is for a bolt action rifle, but using the definition I'm more used to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire-control_system) I would say it would be a combination of the shooter, rest, rangefinder and ballistic software.

My $.02

Thnx ITF for the def. So let me clarify.
This would be in reference to a coating called NP3 (teflon impregnated nickle plating). I had a gunsmith mention having the receiver, bolt, and fire control finished with NP3 and was wondering what parts would or should be included in the fire control?

Firing pin, most likely the spring also.

Fire control in my op, everything that happens from the time you pull the trigger.

Fire control is the trigger group, sear included
If so, I would not think a World Class gunsmith would put NP3 on a Jewell trigger or would that be feasible?

Ni-PTFE coating is softer than some of the functional heat treated parts in the'fire contro'l chain. Those elements would probably have been better left 'in the white" and contacts and engagements finely stoned.

Tribo-DLC (Diamond-Like-Coating) is perhaps an option to consider for sear and trigger engagements. Extremely hard and the lowest possibe coeff. of friction.

I would think coating properly fit and hardened trigger and safety components is a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

At least it makes the parts corrosion resistant

Perhaps it is too obvious an answer, but the only person that knows exactly what he meant is the gunsmith. Why not just ask him exactly what he was referring to?

Because he wont reply.

That solves the problem. I would never have anyone do work for me that would not answer a simple question. There are too many good smiths out there that will.

If you are questioning the NP3 finish, it is one of the finishes created/used by Robbie Barkman of ROBAR. It's real and it works. It is also something that is NOT applied by hand, sprayed, nor baked on.

"NP3" has been around a hell of a lot longer than that. It's called electroless nickel. Robar attached a catchy name to it, marketed it well, and it stuck. Others tried , remember "Nitex"? There are many others.

Nitex failed! NP3 is much more than electroless nickel. The method of application is also different. ROBAR also applies electroless nickel finishes. "Others tried", they also failed. All of my long guns are treated internally with the NP3 finish. I haven't used bolt grease for years. The lugs look as good today as they did when new. Robbie's bread and butter comes from the aerospace industry. He applies his NP3 finish to many, many different high friction parts. He also started this in 1977.

That "superior marketing" has landed them numerous lucrative, long term contracts with companies such as Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, etc. etc. ;)
