what is the best bullet for long rang shooting

Different 6mm barrels and land/groove/leade configurations may have different preferences. I have one 6mmBR barrel that loves the Berger 95gr VLD -- just shoots dots with it and gives up little in wind to the 105s because I can push the 95-grainer way faster. I have a BRDX (Dasher with slightly longer neck) that shoots best with a Lapua 105gr Scenar L, a conventional tangent-ogive bullet. One of our tester's Dasher shoots best (by far) with Spencer 103s.

So, you see, you really won't know what shoots best in YOUR gun until you try a few different projectiles.

i have a savage 12 in 6mmbr 1,8 twist thank you

Shaun me lad, is there a best anything? Is Guinness better than Newcastle or Fullers or Pliny the Elder (from Russian River Brewing Company in California)? Of course not. It depends on what you like, what you have access to and can afford, and what you are capable of. There's no best burger or Berger. There's no best, there are just lots of good options, and you need to shoulder the responsibility of understanding this and learning by doing.

The quest for the best is a major part of the fun. If you want to shortcut the fun, then you're probably in the wrong game.

Is there a best dog? No. They're all fantastic, but lots of owners could use work.

Back to bullets: The Forum Boss is right (as usual).

+1 in that very model rifle OP references.

+1. Your gun will tell you what IT likes best.

In line with the OP's question, would freebore (in addition to twist and barrel length) be a factor in weight range selection before starting to test bullet selection, or can he shoot 80's to 108's?

I agree that the barrel will tell you. HOWEVER, in one case, I had a 6XC barrel 1-8 twist that I re-chambered in 243 AI. Same bbl, different cartridge. The 6XC shot best with Lapua 105's or Hornaday 105 A-max bullets. The 243AI hated them, but loves the Berger hybrids and JLK 105's. Don't ask me why, I just know what the target tells me.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd
