What is the best (and handiest) chronograph? (Under $1,000)

This is akin to a puff of wind shifting POI a MOA or so. But, it obviously is VERY repeatable.

Here's todays sample of repeatability shot after shot with the MagnetoSpeed. The .5 MOA is embarassing but it's not the rifle, it's the shooter Gotta get that shoulder position nailed down.
Did get a SD3 for 2734 FPS so things are looking up.

Although I am rather new to the F-Class (F/TR) discipline, I have found that I can shoot more consistently prone than from the bench. However, when I use my Chrony Master Beta, I shoot from the bench as I find it very difficult or impossible to setup the Chrony for shooting prone.

Could the MagnetoSpeed be used while shooting prone? It would appear so, but I thought I would ask anyway.

Thx!

Takes one guy (me) at least 15-20 minutes to get it aligned to the target with all the walking back and forth making micro height and side to side adjustments. Then the wind blows it all over. I'm thinking there must be a better and handier chronograph out there. HELP.

You don't need a better chronograph, just a better method.

First, some sturdy tripods. If necessary consider the Surveyors tripod that Home Depot sells. Super solid and the wind won't blow that over.

Second, invest in a laser bore sighter that you insert in the chamber of your rifle (not the muzzle mounted ones that can lead to a disaster if you forget it). Set your rifle up on your rest, aimed at your target, insert laser bore sighter, and then just use the dot to align your chronograph. If your supports are solid then only ONE trip out to set it up and if it takes you more than a minute to align everything you should consider having someone else set it up for you 8)

A laser bore sighter is a mere fraction of the expense to get a new chrono, especially when you already have one that's undisputedly one of the best.
BTW, I did manage to get 750 fps from a muzzle mounted laser bore sighter (in a .308). Decided that I'd permanently switch to the chamber mounted ones after that "brain fart".

Some great ideas there. Thanks. I'm off to Home depot. Did you get one tripod or two? Probably have to figure out a way to mount the rail instead of the threaded studs down into the shaft.???

This might not matter anymore but it could help someone mount to a surveyor's tripod.

Tuning doesn't change, just POI which, I believe is due to slight bump to bullet due to magnetic field interrupted by bullet as it goes over the inductors used to sense bullet travel. That slight bump, like a breeze, changes POI a bit.

In my opinion two things happen as the bullet exits the barrel. The first thing when the bullet exits the barrel and hits the air is a pressure wave forms starting at the nose of the bullet and opens up 360 degrees around the bullet. When this pressure wave hits the MagnetoSpeed bayonet it forces a change even if so small in the direction of travel of the bullet. Following the bullet and the pressure wave it has formed is the blast exiting the barrel. Anything passing through air whether it be a bullet, an airplane or a car is affected by the pressure wave it forms in the air and the pressure wave and its relationship to its surroundings can affect the object that is being propelled forward, in this case the bullet and the bayonet it is passing over.

This is similar to ground effect which airplanes experience during landing in which the air flow under the wing is squeezed/compressed against the runway and helps the pilot reduce his rate of descent just prior to touchdown.
