What is Taboo?

New guy here, I have posted some info in the welcome section but wanted to ask what is taboo on this forum? I am looking to expand my knowledge of handloading and certainly not start or participate in an internet argument of opinion. So what are some of the topics to stay away from or do I just need to take some lumps and learn the hard way?

Thanks.

1) Be polite! This isn’t arf.com;
2) Don’t venture outside your area of expertise when replying to others’ questions;
3) Don’t ask questions you already know the answer(s) to, unless you’re A) looking for alternatives or B) a deeper understanding of what you already believe;
4) Keep an open mind even on topics you think you already have down pat;
5) Welcome new members;
6) Say ‘thank you’ when you get answers to questions you post.

BTW, welcome to this Forum, DM! You’ll find you have friends here you never expected to find.

Based on what my observations have been, don't gripe about a product or service unless and until you have given the manufacturer/service provider ample opportunity to address and correct your complaint. You'll get 'read the riot act' otherwise.
Do NOT post dangerous load data or talk about dangerous procedures. If you're not certain the post you're going to make constitutes danger, just don't post it.

I'm sure others will have more to add.

Don't hesitate to ask for an explanation,politely, if a response or post isn't clear. There's a very broad knowledge base here and folks approach problems and ideas differently..... thank goodness.

As posted above,a "thanks" goes a long way as well.

The more complete and to the point your question, the easier it is for responses to get to the heart of the matter.

Enjoy the community.... which ultimately is why we're here.

In addition to the suggestions posted on this thread, please familiarize yourself with the Bosses posts pinned top of each page- main page regarding behavior also the reloading page were he speaks of posting load data.
Other than that, annealing and shoulder bumping are always a great place to Start :)

Many times people will ask for help with a difficult rifle, load or brass or whatever, without giving any pertinent information. It is nigh on to impossible to help them without certain pieces of info. Usually, freebore, twist rates or even the powder or the bullets used, are commonly omitted. List all the info, state the problem as clearly and concisely as possible and you should be able to get some good advice..

That there's funny SPJ, I don't care who you are!!!
(Annealing and shoulder bumping). Everyone knows it's impossible to bump a shoulder and annealing is a waste of time. Both activities will just drive you to the curb!

I am looking to expand my knowledge of handloading

-Welcome, and IMO there is no better forum to achieve that than this one.
-The search feature works well, once I learned how to use it.
-At the bottom of a post, there will be similar threads you can read. Just try not and bring back a really old zombie thread by replying to it before you check the date of the last activity.
-If you find you are getting good input, consider donating, it really helps pay the bills.

I've been in lots of forums over the years. Some shooting oriented and others not. And some reloading oriented and others not. I'm relatively new to *this* forum. I've been lurking a lot, contributing just a little.

What I find unique about this place is the large degree of (relatively) very high precision reloading and shooting practices compared to other shooting and reloading forums I've experienced. The knowledge here is incredible.

In terms of what to do and what not to do - I think it is the same here as I've experienced in other places: Always have a healthy dose of humility. This manifests itself in a number of ways: Don't state things as unequivocal fact. Always be open to perspectives or knowledge that you didn't know was out there. And be willing to admit when what you thought was true turns out not to be.

@Dusty Stevens makes a really good point: Follow up on the thread and let everyone know what worked and what didn't. Not only is it polite for the folks who took the time to reply, but imagine someone in the future finding the thread when doing a search - in the hopes of solving their issue without starting a new thread. How many times have we've been in that situation: We find a thread with EXACTLY the problem we're trying to solve, and the original poster never closed the loop and described what worked. If only they'd done that. ;)

Welcome to the forum.

...The search feature works well...

Hello and welcome. I'm not discouraging you to post, because respectful posting is great and encouraged. However, the recommendation above is a great one too, since there is a ton of resourceful info already available to utilize. And, the Forum Boss' "Bulletin" pages are a huge archive of information as well.
