What is runout?

'What it is?' If it was in the die the reloader should be able to find it.

I have been forced to make gages/tools out of necessity. The longest was 240" long, if necessary I could have made it 240" tall but the shorter version works best when I want to know it is standing up straight or if it has a wobble.

At gun point?

runout is a very good indicator of how well your reloading procedure is working.

it does make a difference. you just have to have a rifle accurate enough to see the difference and the shooting ability to test that rifle's accuracy. for most not even worth the bother.

Forgive, there are tools that reloaders are not familiar with, I made a tool for measuring 'runout', the total weight of the item to be measured was 19,000 lbs+.

And then there was REA down the road, one of the linemen was instructed to measure the length of a pole. Being a good listener and a very savvy electrician he cut the pole down and then measured it. After measuring he gave the information to the foreman. The foreman instructed a crew to 'go out' and replace the pole. It was not long before the crew returned complaining the pole was too short. The lineman that measured the pole insisted he was instructed to measure the length of the pole, not the height.
