What is happening to Burris?

Used to be it was called "Jap junk"......now Japanese-made is good quality. I don't care much for China and don't know if their quality will ever match Japan's. A lot of their stuff is junk, sometimes total garbage, but they're producing anything and everything and some of it's not junk. Depends on the manufacturer and what they're making.

I'm discouraged to see another company move their manufacturing off shore. However, having been on the periphery of some deals that were made to manufacture some hardware items in China, I will say that you get what you ask/contract for. Their quality will be exactly what the customer asks for, no less, no more, so a company that knows what it wants can put the controls in the contract and they will get what they want. Much as I would prefer that the things that were made in the US when I was a kid were still made here, a company that knows both what it wants and how to specify what it wants (using appropriate specifications and inspection standards and processes) can get a quality product out of China.

I guess those companies that do this are getting what they want. Like Jon, I prefer Made in USA, and am willing to pay for it if the quality is there.

But China IS ::) building in the USA Look into the Volvo auto plant being built in SC (I believe).....

Well I took them out of the package and they do look as good as the USA made ones and the fit is the same however the cross bolt lines up easy compared to the American ones and am quite pleased in the end to their use. I just believe we need to KEEP jobs here but the bean counters and government incentives they get to send the stuff off shore is the driving force to basically design it and they will build it. In the end they shouldn't have raised the price at the very least.

My Burris that I just sold was made in the Philippines, I know the rings went to China.. I would like to add that they used shott glass and outsourced much of the USA scopes I had in the past.. I believe Leupold outsources their glass also.. I also believe the better Vortex scopes are made in the Philippines, and Baush&lamb (Japanese) have been thought of as good glass for decades.. I believe our military was using Japanese glass pre WW2
