I replied to the person using the pull thru cable, not directed at you.I use a single wrap of 3" masking tape around the end of my rod where it exits the muzzle, as suggested elsewhere. Some will tell you that's a waste of time, but it's not thier rifle, it's yours. I have no idea what cable users do.
If you're cleaning from the muzzle...autoloader, Lever action...they make muzzle rod guides.

Ditto. I have about 6 or 8 cleaning rods, and have found the Bore Tech "Bore Stix" (I think that's what it's called. It's the one with the green handle). All of the rods are good, but this one is tops, IMO. One thing I've always found annoying in using a rod with a detachable tip is that the tip always loosens in use. Not so with the Bore Techs, at least not their premium Bore Stix line. They have the best ball bearing handle system I've ever used and the tips never work loose.Boretech .20 rod.

Mine would work loose on my ProShot so Locktite'd it. Knew a guy that lost his jag in the barrel & shot it out & it actually made the 50yd target. Even more surprising than that, he did it again at a later date.Ditto. I have about 6 or 8 cleaning rods, and have found the Bore Tech "Bore Stix" (I think that's what it's called. Never tried a Bore Tech.....hmm
I have both. The Ivy I have is 44”. Too long for my liking but nice nonetheless.Ivy rods, but I think he isn't making them anymore. ProShot SS would be my next choice with a good delrin tip, a la the old bore rider stuff. I'm surprised some enterprising person hasn't filled that void.
My barrels are 28” so 40 ish allows me not to crowd the action with the handle.I have both. The Ivy I have is 44”. Too long for my liking but nice nonetheless.
Not so limited as you may think, try Plenty o Patches in Lethbridge, he had a rod I needed for my CZ457 as my Parker was too tight. Can't remember off hand if it was Tipton or Dewey, special made, coated, for tight bore .22's, plus alll kinds of adaptors and patches and whatever else you may need.Has to be popular as I am in Canada and things are limited. Benchmark barrel if that matters.
I ended up buying my rod there a few weeks ago, .20 cal with an adaptor. I regularly buy from him, great selection of cleaning stuff. I had my heart set on a Boretec .22 rimfire specific but couldn't locate one in the length I needed. Not so limited as you may think, try Plenty o Patches in Lethbridge, he had a rod I needed for my CZ457 as my Parker was too tight. I bought my Dewey rods from them and bought my Pro shot rod from Nordic Marksman in Nova Scotia. There is also a boretech dealer or two in Canada as well. Not so limited as you may think, try Plenty o Patches in Lethbridge, he had a rod I needed for my CZ457 as my Parker was too tight.
