what is best caliber for 300 yard best edge shooting

I need a barrel to shoot at 300 yards ,,the game is shooting small reactive targets like eggs and paintballs,,

what caliber would you use and what bullet would you have the barrel set up to shoot,,

I have 65x47 8 twist and 6 BRDX 8 twist for 600-1000 but need something dedicated to hitting really small targets at 300 yards,,tight groups would be nice but really need to be able to make one shot hits on small targets and move to the next target,,kinda like hunter BR but without paper targets??

TIA

What are the wind conditions where this event is held? If it is a nice sheltered range, then a 6BR/Dasher would be good. You mention no weight limit and muzzle brakes allowed, this opens up some more possibilities.

So it's really not "best edge" scoring, so there's not a need for a 30 cal bullet. A 30 BR gets blowing around like a fart in a wind storm at 300.

There's no need to stray from your BRDX........

I am leaning toward you just keep shooting one of your rifles that already shoot. If you are needing something that has a bigger bullet you could try this.

Moving it around might be a pain but the cool factor is there.

Hi Mr Big. If it's only going to be 300 yd, why not a 22 BR or PPC, maybe even a 20 caliber ?

You could get great speed and accuracy rather cheap, not something to overlook these days and more than likely into the future. Something to think about.

I had a 6BR 10 twist, .060 freebore, using 90 grain Berger boat tails that would shoot phenomenal groups at 200/300.

Similar to dreever I had an 8tw 6br shooting 96 vlds - stopped using it at 300 in FO as I blew the spotter up way too many times and it was costing more waiting to get the target fixed.

The sheer precision (and relative ease of getting there) with excellent ballistics of the 6br and improved family can't be beaten for what you are after.

will the lighter 65-70 gr bullets shoot well in the 8 twist BRDX ,,I will try them if anybody has a certian light bullet that shoots well with the 8 twist,,the longer neck on the BRDX should be better for the light bullets than the Dasher but not sure about the 8 twist,,

a 12 twist BRDX twin barrel to my 8 twist BRDX may be in the comming

Why not a .223 with a 1 in 8 twist. No recoil and a lot cheaper to shoot with very good accuracy. And with the heavier bullets, not bad at 1000. Like to hear some pros and cons on this because our club has the same shoot. Eggs at 300.
