Back in the late 80's or maybe early 90's Sako chambered a single shot rifle in 6PPC USA and 22PPC USA. It is not a different cartridge, the chambers and the neck diameter are slightly larger then the competition PPC's. I have one of these guns in a 6PPC USA and they are extremely accurate factory guns. Sako also had factory ammo for these guns back then. Norma make brass for 6PPC and it is head stamped 6PPC USA.

Jon,

The PPC-USA models are the factory spec versions (either SAAMI or our European CIP, I can't remember which). The main difference is that the neck section of the chamber is very large diameter by BR .22 or 6PPC rifle standards as it's based on a neck wall thickness that'll be somewhere around the same as .220 Russian or 6BR out of the box plus a generous chamber clearance by BR standards.

Sako still makes .22 PPC-USA factory ammo and unprimed brass which some people presumably use as the starting point for their custom PPC prepped, neck-turned and fireformed cases as an alternative to .220 Russian. Lapua used to make 6PPC-USA ammo - I don't know if it still does.

We see some Sako PPC-USA varminter rifles in Europe, not new as I don't think they've been made for some years. They're pretty (very!) accurate for out of the box factory rifles and still command good prices secondhand. There are two or three guys shoot them in our Factory Sporter class in 100 yard Bench Rest. These are all 6mm. I believe Ruger briefly made its 77 VT in one or both PPC-USA versions.

The difference between a PPC USA chamber/die and a PPC chamber/die is that the PPC USA is bigger in the body than a PPC. The PPC USA was essentially a commercialised version of the PPC for Sako factory rifles.

Die fit is critical for accurate, long lasting brass in any rifle, but even more so in the PPC. Most PPC FL dies are made around the JGS1045 reamer dimensions, so if your chamber is close to the "standard" for a PPC, then the PPC USA die will not fit the die.

The only way you can really work it out would be to compare the reamer spec for your chamber, with a reamer print for the PPC USA.

Send a couple of cases, that have been fired in your chamber at least 3X each, to Harrell's Precision and get a die for your chamber. You will be glad you did.

My Cooper Varmint, Model 21 chambered in 22 PPC USA has a .252 chamber neck and while unturned Lapua 220 Russian Brass can be chambered, the radial clearance between loaded round and the chamber neck is so slight that I would not be comfortable firing it. I found using the Redding Competition Seater Die that attempting to seat a bullet into unturned Lapua Brass is a no-no. The case neck expands into the neck portion of the sliding sleeve of the die and will not go further without using an unacceptable amount of force. (The Berger 52 grain match bullet measures .2247 at the pressure point) So I trim the Lapua brass to allow for 1 ½ thousandths clearance and all works well. The brass was bought 10 years ago and has 15 firings on it. I also really like Norma brass which used to be made in 22 PPC. The Norma case necks are a couple of thousandths thinner than the Lapua. I’m not sure if Norma still has 22 PPC in their catalog but the Norma does not have to be fire formed. This rifle sure likes the Berger 52 gr. Match bullet and the Hornady V-Max (either 50 or 55 grain) with H-322. The barrel twist is 1:14. My $.02.
