What hat do you wear while on the prairie?

From what I understand, they no longer make this particular one. Amazon sells a similar one however.

I have only spent $50 on a hat once, a Filson, and I only did because a was given a gift card, just not something I would normally do. Well, I might have to do it again. I think I like this hat, the clam shells would still work great and back of the neck coverage would be great. Not the most stylish covering out there, but super practical. Does anyone know if there is a budget friendly one of these out there?

After having a pre-cancerous thing removed from my head, my Dermatologist suggested the Outdoor Research Helios sun hat. I've worn them for years and they seem to do the trick.

Couple of nice looking hats on here. I use a wide brim military and wear long sleeve shirts. Wyoming has burned the skin off of me bad. Even out in the fields farming never had anything like it, must be closer to the sun out there..

Tommie,

I sincerely hope you will reconsider and wear sunscreen! Both the wife and I have had melanoma with me taking her into the dermatologist just today to get her stitches out. My neighbor died from it. It started with a spot behind his ear and metastasized into his lungs before killing him. It's a hell of a way to die.

I prefer a boonie hat and now wear long-sleeved t-shirts when out in the sun.

I TRULY appreciate the concern. There’s no way I’m going to risk skin cancer but I prefer to use clothing rather than sun screen. Just bought some long sleeve hoodie shirts that are UV rated as well as fingerless sun gloves. Combined with a boonie hat I’m pretty sure things will be OK.

Sunday we were both outside of it, but I usually set my table up under the back hatch of this SUV:

Otherwise I wear a bandana under my ball cap covering my ears and neck. I am also a firm believer in spray-on sunscreen.

I wear a neck buff like for fishing. They can be hard to find in a light color to keep you cool. I got mine at columbia outlet store they are light tan. I wear a upf 50 cabelas guidware longsleeve, sadly discontinued. I wear a floppy brimmed hat with larger brim than most, using the drawstring over the stop to keep it from drooping. I also wear lightweight upf 50 sun gloves with open fingers, also for fishing. I still put sunblock on my nose and any other exposed area. I am a ginger.
