WHAT HAS HAPPENED to Varmint Hunters Association??

I tried to contact Varmint Hunters organization in Pierre, SD by phone and via their email address and failed. Does VHA still exist, or what? I believe they owe me two editions of their magazines, and hope they haven't just taken the money and run. Either way, I've run out of ideas on how to contact them.

Thanks,

Barry

Nope.

They did a sudden "We quit" about a year or so ago, and closed up shop very quickly, and with no notice.

Not to make light of your situation, but two magazines is nothing compared to guys who purchased "life memberships" right before they went out of business.

VHA took their money, while giving NO indication that "lifetime" meant "till Thursday"....

I wonder if taking money under the guise of a promise/contract to send magazine subscriptions through the mail, then stealing the subscribers' money (I would call that "stealing," wouldn't you?) constitutes mail fraud. Any comments by any attorneys would be very enlightening.

Not "will be" missed. Make that "is".

I and many, many others were "taken" at the closure. Still have my membership card paid into 2017. That and a dime will get you nothing.

Their magizine was one of the few that I would read cover to cover. It will be missed.

Agreed.

Unlike so many others, there was very little that I didn't enjoy, or find useful, in the VHA magazine.

I also miss the magazine, but wonder what was behind its demise. I liked the fact that it came out four times a year and that it was easy to place ads in the classified section. In any event, I get the feeling that there is something fishy behind the scenes. I will contact the SD Department of Corporations to lodge a complaint, and will then contact the BBB and Chamber of Commerce to see what the story is. If I can get any answers, I'll report back. I am out only a few dollars, but I would hate to know that the owner(s) are somewhere in the Bahamas enjoying themselves on our money.

Lots of magazines are going belly up in the internet age of free info. VHM and Precision Shooting were just the most recent high quality outfits to fold. I was sad to see both of them go.

But we have Accurate Shooter, Long Range Hunting, Target Shooter Online and a few others. The technical quality often falls short of VHM and Precision Shooting, but that is to be expected in the internet model.

They got me for a three year subscription! Bad timing is everything. Hey! I did get one copy before they cut and run.

I sure wish someone would pick it back up and bring it back to life.

They unexpectedly closed the doors somewhere between the 5th and 12th of June 2015 as near as I can tell. They did in fact keep the website up for around a week or so after that. And there has been no public apology or explanation that I'm aware of. You might want to steel yourself regarding your Bahamas statement. And if you are able to get any info from the Better Business Beurau let us know. And good luck with that.

I know a BUNCH of people that were taken in by life memberships, recent renewals etc and were never delivered upon. >:( WD

i too will miss this mag. i have all since my first and review them from time to time and find something i had forgotten. back issues come up for sale on the marketplace and go quickly. re subscriptions...at my age i renew all subscriptions for 1 year only...can't count on being around tomorrow or next year or the next, etc. shoot that gun today...burn out that barrel! saving bullets and powder...HELL shoot them!! to quote george burns... "tomorrow? hell i don't buy green bananas!".

You would at lest think they would have put an explanation on the Website. I would like to think they didn't take the money and run. Matt

If they did that somebody should start a class action lawsuit. Also should contact whatever group handles mail fraud. That is a federal offense because money was mailed. Matt

I was a member since the 1990's.... they have been going down hill for the last 6 or so years. That's why I dropped them a few years ago.

How big of a desire is this to come back.

I am more than proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and would be more than willing to put in the time to write articles on reloading, varmint weapons, gunsmithing, and "featured hunts" with some members / advertisers if the subscriber base was decent enough. It could be print or digital, i can do either through my website.

How many of you guys are "gung-hoe" about this kinda thing?

I would love to have something like that back. I got ripped out of a life time membership from them. It sucks because I would read that mag cover to cover.

Drunie

Your vote is lodged. If I could get to 30-50 votes I would do a issue for the community to review before taking it to the next level.

Could you let me know how much the VHA charged per issue or per year subscription?

Obviously digital issues are the cheapest delivery method but also open to the most "sharing" illegally. Not saying this community would do that but it should be mentioned
