What happens to barrels?

Only Douglas I've ever owned is on my 358win. It cloverleafs 3 shots at 100 with 250gr hornadys. With a 4x scope.

i have a CM Douglass from the late 50's in 220 Swift...full 1.25 diameter. Sucker still shoots 1/4 inch, but I could make pipe from the copper in the bore

Re: What happens to barrels? The occasional dud.

The barrel I received back in the late eighties had the appearance of threaded sleeve and would shoot well for 4 shots, then it looked like it had stripped all the gilding metal from the bullets, A call to Douglas got a barrel replacement, but they did not chamber it as they had the first barrel. I had provided a reamer for the first barrel, and had sent it back along with the bad barrel. They in turn returned a new barrel chambered with the typical(maybe SAAMI) 1895 military reamer. I did not appreciate the terrible handling of my brass by this chamber.A follow up phone call and a letter achieved exactly "0". At that point i wrote them off my list of companies to deal with. That was a long time ago and perhaps they are different to deal with now, but I have moved on also.
