What happened to M.H. Canjar?

I've heard several stories about the rise and fall of Canjar Triggers. Just curious if anyone here knows the inside scoop.

I don't know if there is any inside. I believe Mr. Canjar died and the rest of the family sold stock on hand. I believe this was many years ago.

I heard a time or two that someone else is making the Canjar trigger. But I have never seen any info where to order.

When Canjar WAS in business it was it was hard to get a trigger.

Many years ago I stumbled onto a '67 R-700 Varmint Special (first year for VS), in 6mm Rem, in a pawn shop. I bought it with an old Redfield scope for a song. It wasn't until I got it apart that I found it had a Canjar trigger. I love it, so much so that I transferred it to a custom R-700 250 Ackley I had built later. I never knew anything about the company until now.

I have two Canjar triggers, one on a Ruger M77 and the other on a Ruger#1. Years ago, after Mr. Canjar's death, I spoke with a lady who I remember as his daughter (I very easily could be wrong who she was) but she had a couple of triggers for rifles I didn't own and some parts left. They were and still are great triggers. I covet mine.

Not a canjar but I have a NEGC set trigger for a mauser , it's a close copy of the MH Canjar. Brownells had them for sale . 98 mauser only I believe .

I have an Canjar LP on my 52D. It's nice, but almost to soft. I would rather have a Kenyon.

I had a Canjar set trigger on a M77 Ruger years ago - was a very fine trigger IMHO.

Had a Canjar in a real early 52 and a Kenyon in a Kenyon custom Martini that I sold to Traveler.
I personally don't think they are any better than what are offered today. Most value is in antique value.

I have been reluctant to let the world know that when I purchased the remains of the Champlin Rifles, I got a coupleof boxes of Canjar parts. I needed the new triggers there for Wichita classics and the Champlin. I know how to repair them. I have stayed busy building and Smith ingredients so I have hesitated letting the word out.

I have a Kenyon on my OM 70 Target rifle. There was a rumor that Timney was negotiating to produce them. I hope that happens...

they were good triggers but can't hold a candle to a jewel trigger. I waited a year to get a LP model for a 788.

A "Matt Canjar", born 1909, died in California in Nov 1984.
A "Matthew Canjar", born 1902, died in Florida in May 1980.
I can't find an obituary. Searching industry press around those dates may provide additional information.

I waited 6 months for a 788 trigger that was supposed to take 6 weeks. After then speaking to Mary at Canjar I found that it might take another 6-12 months. Cancelled my order. This was around 1993.

Still looking for a 788 Canjar trigger...

Isnt someone making Kenyon triggers under a different name. My friend got ahold of someone in the family a while back and I thought one of the reamer companys was going to try and make them in a more modern way.

I believe it is PTG from what I've heard. Too limited for Timney
