What Happened Here? .308 case ribbed

Anyone care to guess what happened to these, .308 Federal Case. They were picked up at the range and feel as if they were fire formed to a chamber with rifling's cut in. They were also very sooty all over as you can see in the rim and neck area. They were nearly completely black from soot.

Anyway would like your thoughts!

These were most likely fired in an HK-91 type rifle which uses a delayed blow back action.

These rifles need a fluted chamber to lessen brass adhesion to the chamber walls during the extraction process.

Steve

A bit too heavy for my liking and the ejected brass is almost as lethal as the projectile.

They do offer some type of rubber ejection buffer though.

HK also made / makes the same type of rifle in .223 caliber.

The HK 93.

Their MP5 sub machine gun series uses the same type of fluted chamber.

Steve

Those look exactly like mine used to when I had a HK91. Those Germans do not want brass to stick in the chamber --EVER!! One reason I sold it plus got twice what I paid for it a few years ago when they got scarce.
