What does lot# mean?

I recently sorted eleven 100 count boxes of Berger 108g BT bullets. I purchased 600 from Cabelas and a month or 2 later bought another 500 also from Cabelas that had the same lot number on them. Both orders sorted out fine with 90+% coming at +/- .001”. Thing is the first 600 ran a consistent .004” longer than the other 5 boxes.

I believe if I order off a full custom bullet maker I’m getting the same batch of lead, the same jacket lot, the same die, and they’re all being made in one consistent run. Any idea what I am getting with Bergers?

I can't say with Berger as I work for another bullet outfit but you just about hit the nail on the head, except sometimes a machine crashes and new tooling gets put in, they get it as close as the can but that maybe the .004 you are seeing.

You answered your own question....off the shelf is not a "custom" bullet.
