What do I need to load in .222 Rem?

52g Barts and N133, 205m, Lapua brass w/ turned necks shoots 5 shots in the 1’s @ 100 with regularity in a Shilen barrel-Savage target action I screwed together.

I have 2 buddies, with 3 .222 Rem rifles between them. I is a Rem 700 with a Hart barrel, another is a Mossberg 800 with full bull factory barrel, another is Savage 340. I have been loading for 30+ years, but never fooled with .222 much, .223 and up mostly. Someone give me a good starting point, will be shooting 50gr bullets mostly. The guy who has the 340 Savage, has killed a semi load of deer with it, just sits by the field, and head or neck shoots them, never lost a deer yet, thinks it is magic under 250yds.

Isn't that 340 one of the thin grooved barrels?

I like any 50 to 53 grain bullet, especially 52 Berger FB, and stoke it with 322, 4198, benchmark, 8208, and a match primer. Run the bullet just off the lands and just enjoy yourself.

+1 on Berger 52 flat base bullets over H322 powder. Sierra 53flat based bullets also are very accurate over same powder. I used these bullets over H322 and 10X powder (great velocities), to shoot very respectable groups in mid range (300 yds) F-class over 2 years.
