What do I attach a recoil pad to a laminate stock with?

I've got an OLD benchrest rig, Weber action in a laminate flat fore-end stock. The thin rubber "white line" recoil pad came off. There are no screws, and no screwholes in the pad or stock. It was attached with some kind of glue (which probably held since the 60s). What should I use to re-attach it? And I should roughen up both surfaces first and then clamp it til cured right?

Thanks.

clean it up good and use shoe goo or goop. Same stuff. Perazzi use to install their recoil pads with a rubbery material like that. I have peeled several of them off with a good gasket scraper and it is a rubbery stringy stuff.
It holds my shoe soles on tight when they start to come apart.

I have liked all your posts before that one.Shoe goo? No...please no. It’s great for shoes but not guns. Please don’t use it. Please?
