what could be happening ?

I was neck sizing my 223 brass and then decided to try full length sizing. After loading sme rounds I am getting some that are hard to close the bolt on. Some take alittle more effort than when neck sizing and some quite a bit harder to close the bolt. I put the cases in a Hornady case gauge and they all show good even the length is good. Does anyone have an idea what is happening ? I am using RCBS sizing die and a Hornady seating die. Never had this problem before until I full length sized cases that wer previously neck sized.

Gives you the idea but ignore the part about screwing the die down until it contacts the ram, measure the shoulder and screw the die in until it pushes it back ~0.002"

Keep in mind, the brass gets longer just before the shoulders go back. This is measured from base of case to “datum” point in the middle of the shoulder.

I dunno, I must be doing something wrong. I neck size my 223 brass with the Lee collet die, and seat using an RCBS Gold Medal die with the extended shell holder. My run out at the neck is under .001 and bullet runout is not much more, depending upon where its measured.

My cases don't grow so almost never need to trim, never a stiff bolt close. I do segregate my brass though and keep it dedicated to one bolt rifle.

The only time I had to FL size was when I pulled the barrel and put it on another action. So I went through and FL sized and trimmed everything, ONCE.

The barrel seems happy with what I'm doing, shooting groups in the ones and twos when I'm paying attention. I guess I stumbled into a magic combination, or maybe just lucky and got two dies that weren't made on a Monday or Friday.
