What cheytac cartridge?

I`m planning on building a new long range rifle using a stiller action, but I haven`t decieded what cheytac based cartridge to use 408,375,338 or others any suggestions would be helpful.

Well, The 408 will give you the best barrel life of the 3,along with the heaviest recoil and most expensive bullets. The 338 version will have the worst barrel life, but the least expensive bullets, and lightest recoil. The 375 is in the middle of them all. Dies are about the same. Not sure who makes a hunting style bullet for the 408 (targets solids) the 375, 338 versions could use available off the shelf or custom bullets.

It depends a LOT on what you really want to do with it. The 338 is by far my favorite and the MOST accurate out of all of them. With some of the newest bullets out its gonna start shooting with the 375 for distance and lately we have been nirtiding them and getting near 3 times the normal barrel life out of them. We get just as much or more out of a 338 now then we were out of the regular 375. You have any specific question you would like answered?

I will probanly use it for long range shooting and maybe some hunting just found out about thunder valley here in ohio and heard that they have a 2000 yard range. the allen mags sound nice or is there something better?I love horsepower!!!!!
how is the bullet selection? is there more than just a few choices now for the 375 and 408? I know there is more now for the 338.Nitriding is that just for 4140 or can they do that on stainless now?

The allen mags are just about the same thing that i use. We use the snipe tac version of the chambering and it works great. The 408 isnt the best option because of the very limited bullet selection. 375 have good hunting bullet selections as well as the 338. When it comes down to just straight get it done the 338 does it in style while the 375 is not far behind and does pack a bit of extra punch, But the 338 is not far behind in energy. Nitriding can be done to most any ferrous metals including 416 SS and 17-4 as well as 4140 and 4350. I like to put stainless barrels on the CM actions gives you the best of both worlds because of the extra corrosion resistance it gives to the CM. Then you get the extra accuracy life out of the SS as well.

NOTAGURU thank you for the info I was thinking that no one had heard of cheytacs on this forum
Are you a gun smith? not important just curious. I am looking at the stiller action or is there better? Who makes bottom metal for this looking for a detachable mag? and what stocks are there to choose from ? Yes I know I have to many questions but I would rather ask now than waste money later.
Whats the differance between Snipe-tac and allen mag?
Is brass readly available or is it fire formed?

Everything I've read says the .408 Cheytac is one of the most accurate rounds for serious long range shooting.

The 338 snipe-tac is real accurate and it will spit the 250 SMK's out around 3700fps when ran hard. The 375 is my favorite but I think that Notaguru has built as many chey-tacs as anyone. I have built probly 18 or 20 and they are all great fun and shoot well. There are several companies that build bullets for them as far as hunting rounds. Rocky mountain bullets, bulets bullets, lost river, sierra, and several others all build good bullets and you can buy the brass frm Chey-Tac for about $2.50 each give or take.

What I would like to do is buy the pieces and parts a little at a time this way it won`t hurt the wallet as much. Any sugestions on who`s parts to buy or who`s to stay away from?

That depends on who's point your looking at. For a STI weapon they work great providing great penetrating power as well. But when it comes down to getting BR accuracy out of this large case the 338 has plenty of advantages.
