What can I build from my 223 bolt gun

I think I may have shot out my 223 Winchester Model 70 coyote. Until recently I have been able to shoot 1/4" groups at 100 yards if I do my part. The gun is factory except for a jewel trigger and bedding. Now I'm struggling to get a 3/4" group. The gun is still plenty accurate to hunt with but I use it for a benchrest trainer and my 12 year old son loves to shoot it, in fact he has the best group with the gun to date, a .155 5 shot group. I would also like to use it in the future in a Varmint class for benchrest.

That said I will most likely order a Krieger barrel and keep it a 223 as it does what I need and is cheap to shoot but I'm curious what else I could chamber it in with a 223 bolt face. What are my options aside from odd ball wild cats? I'm assuming I would need a different bolt for a 6.5 Creedmore?

yes, you would need a 308 size bolt face for the 6.5 DM.
As to the 223 bolt and options, besides the 223, there are;
6 x 45 [6 x 223], or 6 TCU
An old BR case, the 6 x 47 [6 x 223 Rem Mag]
6.5 on either case,
204 Ruger
The list goes on

In my safe, there are 221 Fireball, 222 Rem, 223 Rem, 222 Rem Mag, and 6x47 (6x222 Rem Mag), all built on .378" bolt face actions.

You can go down to 17 caliber in factory chambering as well.

If you aren't afraid of a little casing forming and wildcatting, the list grows a bunch.

Your thought of rebarreling with a fresh 223 tube is probably the most sensible, but there is a lot of fun to be had in that bolt face family of cartridges.

If you are open to 20 cal you could do a 20VT(221 parent), 20 practical or tactical both of which are 223 parent cases.

20 vartarg or 17 fireball.. I also have 2-20 praticals.. love them all.. 17fb and vartarg have almost no recoil with a heavy barrel.. G

6x45 (6mmx 223). Bullets are still cheap and performance isn't bad. Its not a hot rod but a neat little round. The smaller the bore the higher the performance but the quicker you loose to the heat gods and replace it again...

i changed my Remington 700 over from 223 to a 20 Vartarg with a Bugholes Barrel and could not be happier will shoot in the 1's just shot some PD's out to 275 yds.

I was going to make one of my 223s into a switch barrel 300 BO. I ordered the barrel but I bought a dedicated 300 BO bolt gun that I shoot subsonic. Now I have a new chambered, threaded barrel that I need to do something with.

Thanks for all the replies, good to know what my options are but I think I'm just going to stick with the 223 this time. Now I need to figure out if the barrel is shot out or if something else is going on.

20-223 or 20 vartarg both rifles are fun.

Really consider a 223 AI, I made my Tikka 595 into a mid-range prone rifle, 30" 1:8 Hart. Just hammers, last match 199-13x @ 300 yards using 80 gr Noslers over Norma 203B, 3050 fps w/o any pressure signs. Lighter bullets will go stupid fast. Fire forming is simple, you get a pretty straight walled case with a 40 degree shoulder, holds about 3-4 grains more powder then a 223.
