What bullet?????

What bullet would you use if you wanted as much expansion/blow up/damage as you could get on a hog or something? Ive shot hornady amaxs and bergers and i know they work well, but they arent extreme damage like im wanting to do with a load here...

Ground hogs or real, feral hogs.

Try 125gr TNT's and 110 V-Maxs... they will both make goodly sized messes.

I've shot water jugs, not varmints, but on the high end of blowing them up with a 300WSM is the 168 A-Max followed closely by the 168 Nosler Ballistic Silver tips. Many others worked well in the 150gr range, but the 178gr and heavier stuff didn't expand as well and blew through. Both 168's laid the jugs out flat, ripping pieces off and sending debris into the air. This may have been a result of the velocity being higher than the heavier bullets. The 150 and below exploded the jugs very well, but did not tear them apart. Not exactly scientific, but was great fun testing.

I will give you 2 examples of "damage".. Example #1: I shot a hog (just shy of 300 lbs.) at a "ranged" 326 yards. I did it with a .300R.U.M. shooting 200 gr Accubonds @ 3225F.P.S. At the shot the hog dropped right there. Upon inspection, he had a hole out the far side (thru both shoulders) that ripped a hole the size of a softball. It blew strips of meat, hide and bone all over the landscape. AND the lungs were hanging out that hole!
Example #2: Same rifle, same load at a 225 pound sow with her piglets running all over. This one shot at about 125 yards. At the shot she was on her side, barely twitching. Inspection turned up a tennis ball sized hole with good blood. BUT about 20ft. away, unbeknownst to me, was a piglet with ALL his guts blown out. He literally looked like Prairie Dog hit with a 22-250! This obviously from an already expanded bullet striking the piglet, with enough velocity left to rain down extensive damage. That is also a testament to the value of a "bonded core" bullet at VERY high velocity!

I like the speer TNT like cat mentioned. Also the Sierra HP Varminter does wonders. ive used both of these bullets on feral hogs out of a bolt gun 308. All were lung shots, all DRT. Im sure the vmax would do the same. I also had good luck with the 69gr. SMK out of my 223. So im assuming those also might be a good choice, using the 30 cal. version.

+1 for Speer TNT. They are usually a very accurate bullet and are extremely explosive on impact in any caliber or weight.
