I am new to mid to long range shooting. I stumbled upon a rifle that will shoot 1/4 MOA at 200 yds now I have basically become obsessed with the notion of shooting at 100 yds. I have looked at the usual suppects, Nightforce, Bacder Ordinance, Warne, and EGW. I understand that you get what you pay for, but there also is a point where the gins are not worth the money. Any recommendations and why?

I have used Warne bases and rings. Ken Farrell bases and rings. EGW bases and Burris signature zee rings. The warne and Farrell products are very well built and priced accordingly. I have found that the EGW bases and Burris Signature Zee rings are about half the cost and I cannot say that they are any less accurate that the others. The Burris rings have an insert that do not mark your scope yet keep it very solid.
Been using the Burris Signature Zee rings and the off-set inserts since they first became available & have never put a ring mark on a scope tube yet.
The off-set inserts have solved a lot of out-of-alignement problems over the years. Forget shimming to keep the scope adjustment centered.
Leaving the rings attached to the scope, and removing the 2 cross bolt base mount screws, and sliding the scope off the Weaver type base(s) make instant removal & re-mounting a snap with no change in sight adjustment, unlike the Redfield/Leupold style turn-in base(s) & rings.
Just too many advantages to not be using them.

The Burris signature universal rings are what came on the gun. I mounted a new scope and removed after shooting around 50 rounds or so. Not a single mark. The only thing that I did not like was that when tightening down the rings, the scope had more of a tendency to turn. It seemed a little harder keeping it level. I guess that is a minor inconvenience though. I might just have to try out the a set of the signature zee in 30 mm.
GunAddict: I alternate tightening the ring screws. Left just finger tight, then right finger tight, all the while watching the gap between the ring halves, keeping them close to the same width. One ring only will be tightened completely before tightening the second.
All the while making sure the scope has not moved. When they are firmly tightened, they are torqued to the recommended inch pounds using the Borka Tool.
The worst rings I've ever used were the old Weaver style that have a ring(s) clipped onto each other on one side, with a pair of screws on the other side. Impossible to keep the scope level while tightening the screws. I stopped using them years ago. Have never had a problem with the Signatures.
Just take it slow and keep even pressure on both screws, ( or the 2 on one side and the 2 on the other with rings that have 4 screws each).
It helps me to do the final mounting at the range where I can keep the crosshairs focused on a known level surface downrange.
All the while making sure the scope has not moved. When they are firmly tightened, they are torqued to the recommended inch pounds using the Borka Tool.
