THEY SAY YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK ANYONE IF THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY BETWEEN A ER SHAW AT $150 AND A DOUGLAS BARREL AT $239

Yes there is. Douglas makes a very good barrel that is not lapped. They are great for live varmint rigs and hold up well to thousands of rounds. ER Shaw is better than most factory barrels but is below Douglas in terms of quality. Shaw would be a great choice for a prarie dog hunt where you are pretty sure you'll shoot your barrel out in a week-end.

Yes, and in my opinion there are better barrels yet. You can spend $300+ for a Kreiger or Hart and they're worth every cent. One of the best values,again just my opinion) is a top end Shilen. Bruno's sells the blanks for about $230 and I have several that shoot VERY well. They are at least competitive with the $300+ blanks. Hope this is helpful.

I have experience with both makers and both barrels are chambered in .308 Win. The E.R. Shaw barrel is fitted to a custom hunting rifle and it shoots very adequate if hunting accuracy,1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch @ 100yds) is what you are looking for but the Douglas shoots well under .6 inch with average loads and into the .3's with its favorite load. You did not mention what type of rifle you were planning on fitting the barrel to but that might make a difference also as most of the "premium" barrels with shoot with a higher degree of accuracy.

If you go to www.accuracyarms.com, you will find that Kim will get you a Shilen CM barrel for $160 shipped or SS for $210 shipped. He is an old friend of many years and a very honest person. To be honest with you, if you aren't prepared to pay this, work on your loads and shooting habits.
