What are my options with a PPC Bolt Face?

I have my action ready with a brand new PPC one piece bolt from PT&G, and a Shilen stainless ratchet rifle 8" twist barrel ready to chamber.

I was originally planning on chambering for the 243 LBC Turbo. But now am thinking about doing something slightly larger.

What other cases are out there with the PPC rim size that would give a little more case capacity? Thanks

Not sure if they are close enough but maybe one of the variations off of the 6.8 case.

6mm Grendal. Basically a 6PPC with a short neck and stretched out body. Neck down 6.5 Grendal, neck turn, fireform and shoot. BR performance in a PPC boltface. This is basically the same as a 6mm AR without having to pay for the name. Order the reamer with a 40 degree shoulder and get a little more performance yet.

I just looked up the 243 LBC Turbo and it sounds just like the 6 Grendal. I'd have the reamer made to your spec and go from there. It's a good little cartridge.

Have you measured your bolt face as some companys make them to minimum spec so you can shoot the ppc or .308 cases like the 6 br.If it were me I would rethink the ppc bolt and order another or send it back and get the .473 which will have way more options to begin with and if you had 2 bolts you could have an after market recoil lug, have it pinned and have a real switch barrel with 2 different barrels that can be switched to anything. You could have it opened up to min spec .473,its only .015 on side so it would take much to change it.

The PPC bolt is a new custom rig I had made by PT&G. Measured it anyhow and the inside is only 0.450"

I have the original Remington 722 bolt which has a 0.473" face so a switch barrel is a definite option. Heck, I even have some 700 recoil lugs laying around.

I always wanted to make a switch barrel rifle, but don't really know how to do it. I know some fellas who do that with the higher end actions. Suppose I could ask them or even my smith about it.

I expect I would need to buy an action wrench and vise correct?

Yup you would. Which is what I'm working on now. But in the mean time my smith told me I can come out anytime I want to change barrels.

I just bought a switch barrel on a Stiller Predator and my smith told me to just screw the one barrel off and the new on just remember the recoil lug.
