What a shock (shipping)

I just sold a Farley rest with the shipping included in price.
Well I just did a pick up label for UPS and almost fell out of my chair when the cost came up. 60 lbs. from Ct. to Ga. $121.50 ground.
So any of you selling an item that has any weight to it check the shipping before you sell or add the PLUS SHIPPING to your add.
In this case it was seller beware. I know IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE, my own fault.

60 lbs for a Farley rest.
Check your weight. I've shipped several never paid that much.

Were they in Farley's hard case with the heavy cast base, did they have an extra protector bag. The original shipping weight was 56 lbs. I know because I used the original box and it had the label on it, I also added insurance.

I shipped one like that and I don't think it was that much.
Are you going to the hub or a ship in a box store.

If you go online UPS has their “simple rate” now that’s similar to the USPS flat rate but is much more flexible on the box used. The rate is just dependent on which range the cubic inch size of the package falls under. I think you’re still limited to 50lbs, so you would have had to ship two packages (not sure if that was feasible or not), but I can’t imagine it would be anywhere near $120.

Franchisees are usually two to four times what a UPS customer service center charges. Someone has to pay for that storefront.

Yes, and not only that. The one in our town will not accept anything related to shooting such as a scope.I only darkened there doors one time after I learned that, to quiz them, and it was confirmed, then to tell them how Un- American I thought them to be.

Those stores are not UPS owned.
They are Franchises. It's probably in the contract.
But they are all like that.
So just stop going to them and posting your findings we all know it's not new news.
And move on. Ranting at them won't change a thing.
Money will.

Just calculated a price with the post office for 60 pounds from Stamford, CT zip 06920 to Atlanta, GA zip 30310, insured for $750 using parcel select. $62.98 total. That includes picking it up at your house.

I went right off UPS web site. I put in the box LxWxD, then the weight, said over size, overweight, with pick up at front door. I would have brought it to the hub but recovering from surgery and I made the deal so I am honoring my commitment to it.
Wish I knew how to post the receipt to show it.

Not doubting you at all Roger. For an occasional shipper UPS will really stick it to you. The postal service will complain a little if they have to pickup a heavy package but it's a whole lot less expensive for the average guy.

I didn't want to use the USPS because of all the shipping problems right now, and I thought they had a 50 lb. limit.
Have you asked a buddy to help.
With the money you save buy him lunch.
Most of my friends are retired and none of them are frequent shippers with any source so I would be in the same spot as I am now.

It doesn't really matter now I already paid for the screwing I mean service, and it will be on it's way tomorrow.

Pretty sure they charge extra for pickup 10.00 to 20.00

UPS usually comes to my shop daily, which is on the same property but a different address than my home. If I schedule a pickup, to alert them I have one, it costs me $14.00. If I don’t schedule and hand it to my driver it costs nothing. My deliveries cost more account of my address is categorized as “residential” account I don’t maintain a storefront.
