What a gift!

I have a friend I've known since freshman year of high school. We've now been friends for 39 years. (gawd, I'm getting old)
Back in the mid 80's when he graduated from law school, I bought him a 22LR semi auto gun as a gift. Nothing special. His teenage son now uses it.

He came up last weekend from North Carolina (where's he's lived for 2 decades) so we could take my sailboat out on lake Erie for a 4 day weekend. He's been taking sailing courses with his son in NC, but doesn't own a boat, and doesn't have much access to one.

So he shows up Wednesday night and reminds me 30-ish years ago when I gave him that cheap 22LR gun. He pulls this out of the trunk of his car and said it's time for him to give me a gun.







It's a 1955 Spanish double barrel 12 gauge. He saw it at a gun show, it needed some rehab, so he re-blued the barrel and refinished the stock. (inside of barrel was still in great condition) Came out nice! And second best of all, it fits me! (most shotguns don't) I will take this squirrel hunting this fall!

If you are lucky, friends like that come around once in a life time. Cherish it as you would your 1st born. BTW, the shotgun is very nice a well. Every time you take it out, you will be with your friend.

This is really a nice jesture,You guys remind me of my Dad and his best friend Gary.He still visits us to this day.Great guy,we called him Uncle Gary and still do.Does the double have a name on it by chance.
