What 7mm bullets for hunting?

I'll have to consider them next year for my antelope hunt. Either the 6.5 or .284 bullets

It's a solid copper bullet, so they willl expand less violently and keep together better then a lead cored bullet in general, and since they also in general needs more resistance to expand reliably a lighter weight one at a higher speed is usually better.
And complete penetration on elk should'nt be a suprise.
And the last little bit of BC matters less then a quick clean kill.
monolithic copper bullets in general also are'nt ideal for really long range shots, as they will generally pin hole earlier then a more fagnible lead core bullet.

If you want to go monolithic, there is always Cutting Edge Bullets also.
1-3 inches of penetration, then 4-6 (depends on which bullet & impact velocity) break off, while jagged edge base keeps plowing through.
Expansion impact speed of 1,300 fps which effectively increases your range over the 1,800 fps for standard cup & core bullets.
Not cheap though!

I’m running Nosler 168gr ABLR’s in my 7STW. Very accurate in my rifle, it only has a 1:9.25” twist, so the the 150-168gr class Bullets work best.
Have also got 150gr BT’s for break in, was surprised when they printed 2” groups at 300mtr.
I plan on trying the 175gr ABLR just to see how they group, but have to wait until lockdown ends, no gunshops are trading ATM.

Cheers.

Berger 180 VLD's Hunting in a 284 Shehane from 100 to 1050 yards. Deadly on hogs and DEER !!! Never could kill a crow at 1000 yards just dusted them but never got a second shot. GOOD LUCK its getting to be that time of year again.

When there is the slightest doubt a Nosler Partition can always, every time and forever be counted on to do the job. I pretty much use AccuBonds for the same purposes and have no complaints. There are many good enough and many come and go in the market place. Partitions have been perfectly reliable from first to last and I'm 75 years old.

Last elk hunt bull at 125 yards broadside heart shot no exit, 2nd shot hit it running at 140 ish about 2" from first entrance wound grooved the heart stopped on inside of off side shoulder. 338wm 180 gr accubonds, recovered both mushroomed bullets. Easier on meat loss than a shoulder entrance, but elk can run. Trying other bullets this year, searching for exit heart wound bullet.

I have killed quite a few whitetail and mule deer with several .280s. Longest was 735 yds with a Speer 160 gr BTSP. Shot through the shoulders, fell in it's tracks a 21 in. 8 point. Bullet was against the far hide perfect mushroom still weighed 130 gr. I have by far killed the most with 139gr Hornaday Spire Point, quite a few 400 to 600 yds. All 1 shot kills. 168 gr SMK is deadly, shot an 8 point 2 yrs ago at 400 yds with one, bang, down. I have also used Swift Sirroco, and 154 Horn. Spire Points.Rifle is a Rem .280 BDL, with Hart, Reminton Varmint weight barrels. 6.5 x 20 Leupold with target knobs.I have put 2 of these together, first I left in Idaho with my son who lives there, yes much smarter than dad. Always H4831 or RL 19 with mag primers.

The more I use them the more I’ve come to like Accubonds. 150 LRABs are showing some promise as well accuracy wise, I just need to throw them into some meat to see if they do what they’re supposed to on the business end.

For long range the Berger VLD hunter or Hornady ELD-X In the heavier weights, if you know your shots are gonna be inside 3-400 yards then the Nosler partition is favorite of mine and it comes in several bullets weights, which one to use would depend on what your planning to poke a hole in. 150s are a good all around weight for those ranges though.

I have killed animals with 162 gr and 120 gr, but I like 140 gr.
That may have something to do with my low skill level. I have only got two animals beyond 600 yards, and that is a hail Mary. I am only a sure thing out to 500y.
I practice to long range, but the deer kill zone is somehow harder to hit than the paper target.

Just wondering what everyone is using for a 7mm Hunting bullet? I’m looking for something in the 175-185 gr. range for Long Range Hunting.
I have been using Sierra 160 gr Game Kings in my 7mm/308 for the last 25 years and have killed many, many whitetails, most right where they stood. I use a 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Silvertip in my 280 Rem, just because it shoots so good. It also performs amazingly well on whitetails, again, most drop right where they are hit.

The sierra #1925 160 hpbt game king has been used for long time 160 sbt and the 175 sbt sierra all give great accuracy and preforms very well on game.
