What 7mm bullets for hunting?

Just wondering what everyone is using for a 7mm Hunting bullet? I’m looking for something in the 175-185 gr. range for Long Range Hunting.

Nosler, Sierra, Berger, Honrady all make LR bullets. I personally don't have any experience with "Long Range" Hunting Bullets. There are some other lighter weight bullets that are designated "Long Range" but are under 175 Grns.

I really like 160's for the 7mm as they seem a natural fit for everything. Pretty hard to go wrong with Partitions, Accubonds, or E-tips.

175 long range accubonds, massive damage on the animal, complete penetration...7 Mag and 280 AI, 9 Twist barrels.

I consider this Nosler 175g LRAB a bullet worth building a rifle around. Tuned easy and quick, seated close to the lands. Mag box OAL is always a consideration on these type of VLD bullets. I did not like working with the 150g LRAB, tunes seemed to be helter skelter in the 7 Mag, but they sure are a good killing bullet. I spoke to some that said that they like to jump .150 or more, which I never tried. 175g LRAB was awesome in a 9T 280 AI also using IMR 7828, tiny groups.

We hit a home run so fast using these bullets that we never tried the 175g eldx or the classic hunter, which I would have done. I have 15 boxes of the Berger 180g Hunting, yet to try.

I used the 168g Berger vids for years in 7mmRM. Recently changed to the 180g....not looking back!

I've made a bunch of meat with those two bullets.

What distance and what game? What 7mm?

This year I'm trying out the hammer 143 hunters in my 7mm RM for mule deer and elk. My rifle shoots the 180 Berger best but I would prefer a pass through if possible. I've used the Swift Scirocco before, very accurate bullet and it's tough as nails. My 30-06 will be fed 180gr Accubonds for 500 and in.

I would feel confident in all of the bullets listed for deer, and would start to pick and choose a bit for elk/moose.

As above, what 7mm? What game?

7mm-08AI shot the 140gr class very well.
I'm using 150gr Ballistic Tips & ABLR. The 160gr Sierra SPBT GameKings shoot well also in both of my 280 Rems.

7mm Rem Mag i'm shooting 150gr ABLR, 160gr SGK, and the 168gr Berger VLD-H.
With the preference going to the 150gr ABLR.

If you like heavy bullets, by all means shoot heavy bullets, but you don't need them.

Not familiar with Hammer bullets but I am familiar with 140 class bullets even partitions and I wouldn't count on an exit with 140 grain hunting bullets in elk size game. Unless you shoot for ribs, I do not think a pass thru will happen. Could be wrong as I do not have knowledge of Hammer bullets. I only know that the 140 hunting bullets I've killed animals with many times do not exit. Elk I'd say particularly. I think a 160 grain plus for elk would be necessary for that scenario. Again, just my opinion. That Hammer could be the medicine needed.

Picked up a 7 wsm this last fall and dropped 2 bou with it. One with a winchester 140 gr and one with a 162 gr nosler. They both died. The one hit with the nosler died faster and didn't move an inch after getting punched.

Don't really know what to expect, but I know for sure there's been lots of reports of it killing and killing well, without a lot of recovered bullets. So hopefully I can run a few through some game this year. I don't think I'll be using them on whitetail, but maybe if I don't get to imout west

I'll have to consider them next year for my antelope hunt. Either the 6.5 or .284 bullets
