What 7mm bullet do you recommend for 1 mile?

I got some 190gr A-Tips and am looking for a backup. What 7mm bullet would you recommend for 1 mile and perhaps 2,440 yards?

The cartridge is 7 PRC.

Thanks!

The 190 A-Tips have a phenomenal BC. You'll need a 1:8" twist and a ton of free bore. With respect to price, all I can say is they're not as expensive as turned copper solids.

The BC is definitely the attraction for me.

I am at the point of speccing the reamer and want to consider alternatives to the A-Tip in case I can't get them to work for me. "Ton" is slightly less precise than Manson would accept as a spec. LOL

The barrel I have on order is 8 twist.

All I know for sure is .227" is NOT enough. My guess is in the neighborhood of .270" to get the boattail/shank and the bottom of the neck to line up with a decent jump. I suggest a dummy round with instructions to allow for .040" or so jump.

I have shot both the berger 180 vld hunting and 168 vld hunting at a mile. 180 was out of a 7mm ultra mag and 168 was out of a 7mm mag. Both worked well.

In the data I've seen from 1 mile.... the 190 ATIPs have the advantage. Unless you get into custom bullets like Warners. If you go custom... you need to tell the bullet maker to the .xxxx" place the bore and groove size your barrel is made to. Otherwise I don't feel you get all your suppose to out of the solids. Watch your twist also.

Around a 1k yards and less... none and I mean none of the bullets that were used for pressure and velocity testing from the accuracy data I got back for the 7/6.5PRC. That no bullet just ran away from the other ones. Then it comes down to your load and what your gun likes and the guy pulling the trigger and reading the wind.

Yes you need a 1-8 for the Atips. If you try the 197SMK you need a 7.5 twist if I recall correctly.

Go 5R for rifling. It is proven now that it helps the bc and the flight of the bullet vs conventional rifling.
