Western union money orders

I receive them occasionally but I know the sender. If you take it to a Western Union agent (Wal-Mart here) to get it cashed then I don’t see what risk there would be as long as you don’t ship before you cash. I think there is a dollar limit because if I’m owed over 500-600 I always seem to get multiple money orders.

My experience was from some years ago, someone owed me money and started working in a different state. He bought them at WalMart but they wouldn't cash them.

No thank you.

I've accepted them off GB sales several times. I deposit them in my checking account but put a 7 day shipping hold on the merchandise rather than my normal 3 for USPS or bank money orders/cashier's checks. I've never had a problem with a Western Union money order.

I send them overseas quite often for family reasons. They are pretty safe for the sender. I have had to cancel one before can all be done online in next to real time. As long as money has not been collected it can be cancelled. Safe to send. I have sent over $x000 at a time only fee is for sender.

I've never had a problem with a Western Union money order, used to use them all the time but now my bank has free money orders/Cashier's Check's so I don't need them any more.

Why use this type of service in the modern era of banking? I’m still shocked people use any type of money orders or Western Union today.
Out of the country stuff I’m not familiar with so I can’t say how that works but inside the US, it’s either electronic payment or I don’t mess with it, total PITA and a waste of time IMO.
Id use a cashiers check long before any type of other payment other than electronic transfer. Who has time to run around sending money grams, trying to cash money orders and the like and the frustrations that come a.ong with it all..

Most of the mainline electronic funds transfer companies - paypal, venmo (owned by paypal), etc....do not allow their service to be used to purchase firearm or related items.

If they find out you purchased a serial numbered component, you run the risk of your account and money being frozen by them.

Nice thing about USPS M.O.'s is that you can check the authenticity online or by phone and they are also very reasonable. You can also use them to purchase a new USPS M.O. or other USPS services if you don't want to cash them. Also can deposit in your bank like a check, but don't have to wait for them to clear (see above 1st line).
