West Custom Stocks

Anyone had anything shipped out of West Custom stocks recently? I ordered and paid for a stock in November and was told around six weeks. Then received an email in February to say it was ready to ship, but nothing arrived, then an email that it would be shipped no later than early April as the owner, Greg, had been ill. Still no stock and despite emailing and phoning and leaving a message, nothing. I don't want to keep pestering the guy if he is indeed ill, but shouldn't be too much of an issue to package up and mail a stock if its ready. The website is still up and running and no information there to say we're unable to fullfill orders. Anyone had better luck than me?

Well the good news is I have received an email from Greg saying the stock will ship at the end of June and that he has been ill and not in the shop. There is also a message on the website that the shop is closed until 6/27. So hopefully I should finally have the stock early July.

I was just thinking about buying one of his stocks,Has this been the norm for delivery for his stocks(6) months? Are they quality? Would like other customers to chime in here.

No problem with the quality or inletting, apart from some light router marks on the exterior which sanded out very easily. The first one Greg did for me was just after the change over from Richards and took a couple of months, which was why I was getting a bit concerned when this one was up to six months and counting.

I was at his shop at the end of may and he seemed fine. I ordered a stock from him, i hope mine don't take 6 months. He said he is going on a P-dog in june. Could be why his shop is closed. Keep us updated on when you get your stock.

Well,

As I posted in the "think I have been taken" thread, the last email from Greg West stated "stock will ship no later than 6/30, but still no stock, making that almost 8 months since order and 5 months since being told it was ready to ship. Again, no answer to emails and the phone rings but no one answers. I've just about given up on ever getting the stock so am going to give him 28 days to prove the stock has been posted or my money back and if not I'll contact the State Attorney and see what they can do. Even if he has been ill as he claimed, surely in five months he could get a relative/friend/business associate to parcel up, fix a label and mail the damm thing?

Just so I can understand,out of my own ignorance,is this the shop that took over richard franklins business when he retired? If so I hope Mr Franklin could find someone else to start making his stocks to get production u and running again. He probably had to sell the rights and if he did,he sure picked the wrong fella to make such a fine stock,which I was also very interested in ordsering sometime down the way. It is a shame this has happened if this is the case.Lets hope there is a reasonable explanation and you recieve your new stock soon.

Richard Franklin sold the stock works 3 or 4 years ago to West custom, and would get stocks from West. Richard sold the gun works and equipment to Tommy Shurley of www.shurleybrothers.com as of 1-1-11.

You know the real sad part is that they are indeed some of the best designed stocks around for long range shooting. It is a shame that the business seems to be falling apart. I really hope that Greg can pull it together, not just for me but any other people who are waiting on him for stocks and maybe complete rifles as he advertises that he builds complete guns as well as just the stocks.

Leeman I agree they are fine stocks for long range shooting. It is very unfortunate that this type of customer service has been allowed to continue for such a long time. I have had such a horrific experience with Greg West, even though he presented himself as a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable person. There are many hunters, competitors and enthusiastist from all around the world who have sadly 'been taken for a ride' and lost hundreds of dollars. At least we now know that it just hasn't happened to one person..If he has been ill since early 2011 (reason given in an email why stock hadn't been ready) and has continued to be ill according to others on this forum throughout the year why doesn't this man just give people their hard earned cash back so they can at least order from Tommy Shurley as his work looks mighty fine. I hope someone can put an end to all this and all those who are owed a stock, rifle build etc can finally receive what they paid for.

File a complaint with the Virginia State Attorneys office for consumer affairs. They have a website which you can easily do a search for, download the form and send it in. It doesn't matter where you are in the world, breach of contract is the same everywhere. They are currently investigating my complaint. I did receive an email from Greg last week saying he would try and get the stock out that week, but I have received numerous previous emails saying the same thing since January. I don't understand if the stock is complete why he can't get a friend or relative to help him clear the backlog.
