were to begin?

Once i decide on what caliber/cartridge i wante do i go next????? I don't have any rifle, that i know of) that could be re-chambered,?).

So i know i will have to contact someone to make a barrel, but what about the rest? do i find a cheap bolt action to use for stock and parts?

You can't decide what you want and maybe don't even know what it's for, so why do you think people on the internet would know what you want?

Palerider, Ackman is right first you need to decide what it is you intend to use this rifle for and build the right tool for the job. Do it all rifles are much like do it all tools they really don't do anything very well. Head out to your local range and watch some of the comps. Many times there are some guns for sale that would get you in the game much faster than starting on a custom build.

guess i didn't state what i was after:,, I already have/shoot with an AR15, 20' S.S. free floated, match trigger and then some. Very happy with this set up and still learning to shoot with it, as its my first 'precision' rifle. I have really enjoyed learning to shoot small groups with it and am still not as good as the rifle. I'm just learning about Bench Rest shooting and all that goes with it and was curios as to how everyone else started? I don't participate or have even gone to a match, this site along with a couple others is the closest i have come. I do believe when time alows i will at least attend one and hope to participate. that's why the newb question. From what i have learned my AR has its limitations 0-300yds,everyone has there on opionion on this). What i am after is a rifle that will shoot beyond that, 600-800yds,?)for the day i do decide to match shoot or if i ever get the chance to go to a prarie dog hunt! I have read all the threads on each caliber on the home page at least twice if not 3 times. Just gets confusing with all the options.

My Build:
Purpose = Paper punching/varmint hunting/match shoot in that order

Reloading = yes, would like to keep it simple and lots of options for commponents.

Range = 200-600yds with minimal drop as possible

Budget = best quality cheapest price. i haven't even bought a top of the line scope for my ar yet, simmons 44mag $250)

So i still don't know what i want but am curios as to how someone would go about building........6mmBR? other than buying used, which is were i will start looking)were do i start?

Do i limit myself with a particular GR bullet and barrel twist for a given distance?

Stocks, actions,

Ackman i don't expect 'people' to tell me what i want, i expect them to educate me so i can ask myself the right questions and keep asking as i become better educated.

280man, i consider my AR a do it all rifle, so now i want a rifle that i can shoot 500yds and not worry about hold over and a 10mph wind.

thanks

I have shot a little at 500 and from what I have seen if don't want a 10mph wind to affect you I would consider a howitzer maybe in 30mm. Joking aside look at a 6BR and if your on a budget check out the F-open gun from Savage. If you can afford custom a 6BR or 6.5x47 would be a good choice
