Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hello. Don from North Central Ohio.

New to this forum but been a reloader for a long time. I started reloading in the late '70s, at that time reloading handgun ammo. I started reloading rifle calibers in the mid 90's. 223 Remington, 30-30 (not a lot), and more recently 300 BLK, 22 K-Hornet, 6.5 Creedmoor and just in the last few weeks 222 Remington.

My main interest in reloading lies in gaining as much accuracy as I can from my firearms. It's a fun hobby that for me is a big part of the shooting sport. In years past I did a lot of varmint shooting but as the world around me changes...I loose contact with landowners and the surrounding fields and woodlots turn to housing developments...most of my shooting these days is on the ranges.

You won't see me posting much, I'm here to read and learn. In the early days of internet forums I used to participate quite a bit but as they all turned into places where people argued and called each other names...well many of you know about all that. I just stay in read-only mode.

Anyway thanks for having me.

Wanted to introduce myself. I'm from the Bay Area and just getting into long range precision shooting. I've been shooting and hunting all my life but finally put together a new rifle for long range hunting. I'll try and help out but I'll be lurking a lot and trying not to ask questions that have been asked before. I've looked for a few months and this forum seems to be filled with great people with lots of helpful knowledge.

As of right now I have a 28 Nosler built on a Rem 700 action put together by Spartan Rifles. I hope to be putting a 6 or 6.5 Creedmoor in the coming months as well. I look forward to interacting with everyone and please go easy on this newbie haha.

Hello Everyone,
New to this site. Very impressed with the knowledge base of the members here. I’ve reloaded last about 40 years ago and really need to up my game. No doubt you’ve got the answers so my appreciation for any help is in advance. Thank you all!!

I’m working with a old rem 700 243 to start.

Hello, this is a new site for me as well. I hunt and enjoy serious but casual target shooting, i've been hand loading since '63 and enjoy that as well, low volume but multiple cartridges.

Hi Folks;
While I have been shooting for a few decades and shooting the 600 yard matches at TCGC in Sherwood, OR for the last 5 years or so, I am relatively new to Accurate Shooter. In general I have more questions than answers, and I am willing to try new stuff as long as it stays within my budget. Currently working on F-TR stuff with a custom 223 and a second hand 308 model 12 from Savage.

If anyone actually reads this stuff, I have a question about twist rate in .308 barrels.
Why is 1:10 the fastest twist rate offered by barrel makers?

Hello I’ve been lurking around here for a few years. Living in the western side of North Dakota. Lots of P-Dogs around. I’ve shot them in December-January and of course all summer long. I have a couple.204’s and do all my own reloading, along with a buddy that has a few .204’s also. Just had a AJ .260 built and got out to shoot it last weekend, about 35* outside and 15-20 mph cross wind with light flurries of snow. Loaded a few 142gr matchkings over h4350 and a few 140 VLD’s. I got lucky on the VLD, but more work on the match kings. Shot 5 shot groups, the VLD was one ragged hole pic to show. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum !

For the 308 Winchester cartridge, 1 in 10" twist is the fastest offered in Factory rifles. You can order a barrel blank as fast as 1 in 8" from most reputable barrel makers. Bartlein, Brux, Krieger and many others.

10" twist is a good compromise. It will fully stabilize 210 grainers and not overspin 168 gr too much, and even 150 grainers do not come apart in 10" twists. 8" twist is primarily for subsonic 200+ grain bullets. 9" twist is for the latest 225 - 230 gr long and sleek 30cal bullets used strictly for Extended long range.

Welcome to the accurateshooter forum community !

You will not find much bickering on this forum. It does happen, but not often.

Hello from Colorado. I have been a firearms enthusiast for 30+ years but just started reloading three months ago. I load for .357, .44mag, .454Casull and soon 500Linebaugh. I will also start loading for .308 soon and am really here to keep my mouth shut as much as possible and learn from you seasoned loaders to fine tune my operation. Obviously I would be more than willing to help out with whatever I can provide but my knowledge in reference to reloading is obviously very limited.

Just found this site and can easily see there is a wealth of information here - as well as knowledgeable people. Look forward to learning and at some point maybe even be able to contribute.

Hey guys, new member from Georgia. I'm John. Just started reloading last year, and I have enjoyed seeing the differences the smallest amount of powder or bullet seating can make. I look forward to conversing with you guys.

I'm just getting into reloading, with long distance advice courtesy of my dad, a longtime reloader. Planning to load for .223, 300 Blackout, .308, and 9mm. Starting out with a Lee Challenger press and seeing where it goes from there.

Thanks for the welcome. I finally invested into the world of reloading. I’m a utility lineman in Alabama. I learned to shoot, to eat and have been doing so ever since the early 80’s. The only gun i’ve Had rebuilt is one my father ran over in a 77 Chevy blazer. It was a Remington 30-06 now a 25-06 w/ trigger, Douglas #4 26” barrel and a straight 8 kale’s. Love it. I picked up a bergara HMR 6.5 cr this year and this site is a tremendous help learning to reload for it. Thanks to all. P.S. I’ve always said, knowledge is useless unless you share it. You guy’s are very good at that. Pwez
