Weird Dents In New Lapua 6BR Cases

My last box of Lapua 6BR, circa ‘22 I believe, had 2 cases with big creases like that in them. My Peterson 6br cases have been just as durable and shot just as small. Same story with my last batch of Lapua 6.5x47. In that case, the Peterson shot smaller. I don’t need more brass, but I will think twice about Lapua if Peterson (6BR and 6.5x47) or Alpha (6PPC) are available when I do.
I sold off my Lapua 6BR brass years ago and moved over to Peterson that now have more than 15-20 loads on them now and still holding the primers well, no neck splits, no cases lost due to extended use.
Cleaned and annealed @ time.
Same for their Palma .308 cases, now branded SRP due to the “Palma” name being copyrighted..
Have Lapua 6.5PRC cases now necked up to 7PRCW and see how the play out {No defects found in 300 pieces} but I do now have 150pcs of ADG 7PRCW and they need no prep and I can see moving on to them full time.

As for using those seriously folded cases my recommendation is to put them in the scrap bucket as you would just be asking for a face full of hot gas and possible major damage to your rifle when they rupture.
50-55Kpsi = BOOM!

I had two cases with the crease/dent in them. I noticed one during my case prep but did not notice the 2nd one which I fired on a relatively low load as I was breaking in a brand new barrel. You can see from the picture that the crease propagated a crack into the neck on the case on the right in the attached photo.

I should add, that when I contacted Lapua, they were very helpful and are sending me out replacements for the damaged cases.

i have had similar experience lately— my peterson 6br brass primer pockets have held up much better than my lapua ones.

Maybe Lapua needs to go back to the 101 count boxes. Good will goes a long ways.
lapua has been under extreme pressure with the wars- nato stuff and trying to keep us civilians half way happy. i understand those finns are extremely meticulous. they may have had a hic, but if so they will certainly fix it. that doesnt mean i wont buy any peterson or adg though.

For the record, I consider the two cases pictured in my original post to be junk.
And no, I am not going to waste my time sending them to Lapua.
Yep...wasting $30 worth of time over $3 worth of brass seems a little counter productive. Pretty small potatoes in the overall scheme of competitive shooting. :)

Stay warm down there. Air temp here this morning is -15 and wind chill index is -35. Might even need gloves when I head outside. ;)

Good shootin' :) -Al

I see many shooters will winge and cry about tiny differences in brass manufacturing and perceived quality. Brand A vs Brand B etc.

Now these pieces are obviously defective and not merely dented, and the manufacturer says do not fire them. And DJ says they rupture.

And yet we have shooters, who spend thousands every year on shooting, saying to fire them anyway because they can’t afford to lose a few dollars worth of bad brass? If you want to be that guy, do it elsewhere, don’t post it, and only shoot them on an empty firing line.

I was just saying that in Jest. Miss the stupid plastic box and getting the extra case always made you feel like they wanted your business.

I am sure they monitor this site. If they don’t, they should.
We do. And in most cases a picture attached to the email will suffice. We only ask for samples if we cannot clarify or need to see the issue up close. cell phone pictures sometimes will not do the job.

Are some guys wanting their 2 pcs of brass replaced to be thrown into the mix with 98 from a different lot? Asking because I’ve got lots of culled by weight Lapua 220 & 6br that I’ve gathered over the years. I’m sure I can gather 100 pcs from 10+ different lots. What’s that brass worth to someone?

^^^^ "Rare Sekoitettu Lapua 6BR Brass"
Probably shoot great... That would be a great test, although I'm sure someone has done it before.
