Weighting a stock????????

I'm in the process of building a rifle. It feels like its going to need some weight in the butt stock to balance it out. I was wondering if I could get some tips in doing so. Do and do nots... Its a synthetic stock. Will hot lead damage the stock if poured in hot. THANKS for any tips.....

Hot lead will wreck a synthetic stock.

I use a bird shot and epoxy mix. Almost as dense, and easy to add a little at a time 'til you get the right weight or balance.

.

Hunt up the finest shot you can find, #12 will be as dense as it will get....
I just fill up the hole I cut and then seal it with epoxy.....
Don't even think about heating up one of those Tupperware stocks with hot lead or you'll just have a puddle of stock material........

Use #9,skeet) sized shot, it is available everywhere - have you seen the price of #12,IF YOU CAN FIND IT)... three to four times the price of #9.
I bought 30 pounds of #11 a little while ago for my 28ga, and I had to take out a bank loan for it. :,

You need to mix epoxy WITH the shot - otherwise the shot will settle and start rattling around in the cavity.

I agree with CatShooter that it's best to mix the shot with epoxy. I've used #9's & JB Weld for years with good success. Be careful drilling out the foam; make sure the hole goes straight. If you let it go sideways, you'll be amazed how easily it cuts thru the fiberglass. Don't ask how I know.
