Weatherby MARK V Gunsmith ?

Looking for a top Weatherby Gunsmith capable of aucurizing truing the action re-barreling to Weatherby Mag cal.
buleing the action and barrel ect...Looking for someone with experience on Mark V's..??

I have several 6 and 9 lug weatherbys and the lug system will be the hard to deal with factor on accurizing them. Any smith should be able to face the action and bolt face, but that's about all can be done without lots of time. Do that, rebarrel to the caliber of choice, and enjoy. Guns are like potato chips, one is never enough.

It's a 9 lug mark V 7mm WM.. shoot's bad..very poor...I'm still trying to get it to shoot but I have had a few rifles in the past that shot this way and I think it may never shoot.. I was trying to stretch the lug's into full contact this afternoon..lol......I like the rifle, I like the cartridge. I will have it re-barreled if it wont shoot. so I was looking for info on a good smith that can handle this kind of work. PS I have several very good shooting rifles.rem custom,savage,Kimber...but I do not have a good shooting weatherby..but I will..

I am absolutely not selling it. it is one of the most beautiful Lazermarks you ever seen. it looks like French/English walnut not claro ... beautiful rifle..but it still should shoot...USA made mark V.. it appears to be bedded in the recoil lug,it is not a bedding issue..it is more a bad barrel..kind of shooting..i'm trying some bullets and powders. BUT if it wont shoot it will get a new barrel..not a big deal..

Contrary to popular believe, the Weatherby Mark V rifles can be made to shoot. With a good quality barrel and good bedding ( just like any other rifle ). I'm not saying they will compete with a 6mm ppc match rifle (apples to oranges), but they can be an accurate and hard hitting hunting rifle. My 257 WBY Mark V was barreled by Clarence Hammonds with a Hart barrel, I also had a really accurate Mark V 270wby with a Douglas barrel, and my 240 WBY Mark V shoots really well with the stock barrel, just some bedding done to that one. I'm pretty sure Shilen will also do the work you are looking for as well as a host of other good smiths. Have that pretty rifle pillar bedded and a quality barrel installed and enjoy it!
Just my 2 cents......
Good luck,
Gary

Thanks Gary..I know a few guys who shoot 257 WM and they shoot well. one guy handloads and it shoots 3 shots well under 1/2 moa at 100yrd..I heard tell of a guy who barreled a 240 WM with a 1-7.5 twist and they claim it cuts bullet holes at 500yrds..I have never seen it...But I said if a guy was going to have a pretty hunting rifle, I have a few but a classic beauty like a weatherby Mark V it would have be in the 7 bore..so when I ran across this LazerMark in 7WM wow it's a stunning rifle. so I bought it..I really like it but it has shot real poor..so I have been shooting and cleaning it. cleaning it some more. ect....I had two three shot groups this morning under 1 1/4" like 1.119 or something like that and one 1 1/2" group..so it might be coming around some..but I wont fool with to much more if it wont shoot 1" to 1 1/4 easy then it will get a new barrel..

It had been shooting 3-4" 3 shot groups. best one I had was about 2 1/4" at 200 yrds.. but I tried, 7828.RL25,H4831..it looks like it might like H4831 and a 162 Hornady IL..BUt the Velocity has been real slow..so far.

I have built several Mark V rifles they can be blue printed as well as any other rifle just take a little more time on the lapping but it is well worth it. The same lapping tool for the 700 Rem. will work in the Mark V. I have a 6 lug i rebarreled and blue printed to a 6-284 and have made two different 338 lupua improved one out of a 30-378 and one out of a 300 weatherby by turning the bolt face out and replacing the extreactor. i have a 300 ultra built off of a 300 weatherby and also a 7 STW. all built on weatherby. There is nothing wrong with the Mark V they are one of the strongest if not the strongest comercial action made.
Sure there is alot of Parts options for the 700 but i would build on weatherby any day with no problem.

well I got that rifle shooting quite well...first I did a complete bedding job floated the barrel.
3 shot groups at 100 yards measured like at a BR match, useing the bullet hole in the paper that measures .272.
.500 to .650 3 shot groups..hunn so you can get one of these weatherby's to shoot quite well. it really likes that Berger 168 classic hunter bullet..a undisclosed amount of RL26 for a MV of 3,160 FPS...this rifle was not intended to be a long range hunting rifle but I have got it shooting quite well...my shoulder is sore..not like bruised sore I mean like deep bone ache sore..ah this getting old is hard.
