Weatherby feed issue -- .338 Lapua Conversion

We have 2 Weatherby MK V Accumark 30 - 378 WBY's re barreled to 338 Lapua. Rounds will not feed from the mag on either gun. Is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks,
Tod

I have Sako TRGS that was a 30-378 and it has also been converted to a 338 LAP, it feeds from a Sako detachable magazine. If that is the case for a MK5 I would see about a 338 magazine from Weatherby. If it Feeds through feed rails like a Mauser or Remington I think you are going to have to look at the feed rails on the MK5 that came chambered in 338LAP and duplicate them. I am now sitting here trying to remember if I have ever even tried to feed a round from the magazine on my Sako. The Weatherby 378 is way bigger than a 338 LAP. Wish I could be more help.

The first impulse might be to think that the magazines are somehow different. I have Mark V's in both of those calibers and if there is any difference in that area or the bottom metal I cannot see it. I do not have precision instruments that might tell a different story but no help here. Wish I had something useful to offer. Good luck to you.

Well..a closer look shows that the rounds (both loaded and empty) are diving. Going to call Weatherby in the am to see if they have the right spring/follower. Now.....One of the guns is printed 10 - 12 inch groups.....went through everything I could think of. Nothing worked and my buddy was getting pissed. Then a bulb went off....maybe its the bullets making contact with the brake....it was bored from 30 to 338. Three shots without the brake and Presto fixo. Will Take care of that in the AM, also. The other gun is having bolt opening issues....like high PSI. Like a "clicker". Things were fine and now everything right down to 85.0 Gr H1000/300 Hybrid on new brass has issues. He had no issues at 91 gr last week...and now??? I will dig into that tomorrow. I wish these guys would have started this process 3 months ago. To easy, I guess.

But....it's good to be back in the saddle again. 9 months away from shooting and everything that goes with it was HELL. Looking forward to next season!!

Just talked to the folks at Weatherby. They said that all three...the 30-378, 338-378, and the 338 Lapua ALL TAKE THE SAME MAG PARTS. Back to the drawing board!!

I was about to recommend bending out the front of the feed lips. Glad you got it sorted.

Truth be told, Weatherby should of at least offered to replace the internal mag. But if you can do it yourself it's always the best solution in my opinion.
