WC852/WC680

I picked up a 8# jug of each this morning for a good deal. The WC852 says to use H450 load data which I’ve never heard of and then the WC680 says use AA1680.
Is anyone familiar with these powders?

I used H450 in my 270 years ago. It's a double base ball powder and
near the burn range of Ramshot Hunter. Good with heavy bullets.

H450 was discontinued years ago, any load data will be in the older books.

AA1680 is somewhat of a niche powder, on Hodgdon's reloading data center you can click just on 1680 and it will bring up the cartridges it is recommended for.

Hodgdon's tech line might be able to help as well.

Edit/Add: I found H450 data for the 22-250, 243 Win, 270 Win, and 30-06 in the first edition Lee reloading manual. There may be other cartridges as well. I found an archived version online:

Sounds like a very versatile Powder
I've not seen it from the Surplus suppliers, You a lucky guy

The H450 is what interested me, with current powder prices I couldnt pass up the deal. The stuff I read said it’s similar to h4831. I’ll have to do more digging once I get home

I got it at a local flea market. I know I’ll use the WC852 as someone wrote in sharpie H450 on it and I did my own research to verify. Supposedly H450 is very close to H4831, which I’ve been using up a quite a bit between this 7 mag and 25-06 AI I’ve been shooting

Jeff Bartlett at GI Brass sold a lot of wc852 years ago. Depending on the lot, its burn rate varied quite a bit. I had some that compared to h380. If you know the lot #, Jeff may be able to zero in on what you have.

I do have the lot#, BAJ 47288

On the older military spec powders you have to consider if it is
actually a canister packaged surplus, from a given lot, or a pull
down powder. Your lot number fit's into the waivered powder
that was too slow for the Garands and used for the 06 machine
gun ammo. Garands used BAJ47287. 88 and 89 was sent to the
belt fed guns and or picked up by Hodgdon for there enterprise.
Some is sold as H380.......Either way start low and work up. WC852
is all over the map for consistent burn rates.

Question for anyone with current stock of H380.....Is your powder
a flattened ball type as was the older stocks of WC852 ??

WC680 and AA1680 are one & the same from everything I’ve read over the years and my chronograph agrees
