I know WTH!! Looking to move to York, PA., and started looking at homes. This toilet is located in the basement of one of the properties we are looking at. What is that tank behind the toilet?

My quess is a turd lifter. The toilet is below the level of the sewer so the waste is pumped up.

As a former maintenance guy, I can assure you they always break down on holidays…

It's a turd grinder and pump. As stated above the drain line is higher than the basement toilet.

Lift station it looks like. Toilet is below grade and below the septic tank. Waste needs to be lifted to the tank.

We are looking at moving to my son's house outside of Harrisburg in 2024. If you fish the river there, it will be great. For a state run by the commusocialists in Pholly and Pittsburg, York has lots of great people that are good and honest.

If you are an IBS benchrest shooter, perhaps you can get the York IWLA to re-start their score matches. Haven't been any since KL Miller retired as match director. Nice range.

FWIW no matter how good that turd lifter is, there should be a "nothing other than toilet paper" sign above it. You'd be amazed what guests bring in or find in the bathroom and try flushing...ask me how I know.
